Xavi Hernández has torn anterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee, and will be out of action for about six months. He will be operated on saturday.
In an unfortunate accident involving himself and Edmílson in Friday morning training at La Masia, the Terrassa born midfielder twisted awkwardly and tore cruciate ligaments in his right knee. He was immediately attended to by physiotherapist Àngel Mur before being led to the changing rooms.
The Club Medical Services took him straight to Hospital Asepeyo in Sant Cugat, where magnetic resonance confirmed the original diagnosis. A medical report states that "the injury requires surgery, and he will be unable to play for about six months".
Operation Saturday at 11:00
The head of the Club Medical Services, Jordi Ardèvol, in a press conference held immediately after the diagnosis was made official, said "it is recommendable for the operation to be performed as soon as possible because there is very little swelling and there has been no damage to cartilage or the meniscus". So Xavi Hernández will go into the operating theatre on Saturday at 11.00, at Clínica del Pilar, where the surgeons will be doctors Ramón Cugat and Jordi Ardèvol himself.
At about one thirty, the doctors will appear before the media in the Camp Nou pressroom to explain how the operation went.
