Here's a clip from a Shilelagh Law show:

They're playing "When New York Was Irish," (after a little Dropkick Murphy intro) which although a classic, is uniquely their own in their rendition. Traditionally it's played slowly, almost like a lament. Interestingly, they up the tempo and it becomes more a triumphant and celebratory song. I LOVE both renditions. Their shows are a hell of a night out, and "Celtic Symphony" is as lively as you'll see.. the crowd tends to go nuts, even though some wouldn't necessarily know the meaning of the song.
Anyway, as a contrast, here's the traditional version of "When New York Was Irish" (not Shilelagh Law):

Finally, in the beginning of the Shilelagh Law clip, they play and half take the piss out of Dropkick Murphy's "Shipping up to Boston (aka the Departed Song)." They, and most of their fans, like Dropkick Murphy, you're just pretty much obliged to take shots at all things Boston being from New York. Little context!! Oh, and their fiddler (All-Ireland champion) is wearing St. Patrick's miter as this was from this past St. Patrick's day weekend (anyone interested in the locality.. it's the Woodlawn section of the Bronx, NY, pub: The Rambling House on Katonah Avenue, which so happens to basically be across the street from the Bronx Celtic Supporters Club.. now known as "The Celtic House" and formerly "The Well"). Enjoy!!
