Omagh
Exactly ten years ago. I can barely believe it - doesn't seem that long at all.
A true atrocity. They actually ended up killing as many Catholics as Protestants, meaning both communities suffered just as much from the attack. What these murderous twats ever hoped to achieve from the attack, I do not know.
The only good thing that came out of this criminal act was that it redoubled the general Northern Irish population's determination to make the peace process work, to build a better future for all and to consign events like this to history. They realised that there was no going back to the old ways, and that peace was the only option.

Can't believe it's been 10 years...really tragic stuff. It's amazing how much we have moved on since then.

That's why the authorities allowed it to happen. Many people were still not sure about the peace process in the aftermath of the GFA. The Omagh atrocity was an example of the alternative in that it shocked every right-minded person into throwing their weight behind the peace process.

yes it was horrible but it wasnt the provos and was only a small small minority of republicans who were part of this, i'd wish people will realize this, also, not saying i believe this, but i read somehere a few months ago on the internet, rumours going around that the main omagh planner was a biritsh double agent, and started this attack because the ira were getting their way in the peace process, and that this would knock them back.

if as reported there was a loyalist group makeing bombs above that chippy then draw your own conclusions on the validity of a republican attack.
sure you can question the ethics of that attack on innocent shoppers who were in the vicinity.
but the bombs coming from that loyalist base was hurting republicans for years.
sorry but......... paybacks a bitch.
