What the f#ck is going on?
An attack on a coach carrying Donegal Celtic football fans through the Drumahoe area of Londonderry’s Waterside was today condemned.
Community leaders and political representatives raised the sectarian incident and a spate of other similar stone throwing attacks on moving buses during a meeting with the PSNI.
Efforts are to be stepped up at flashpoints across Derry and the wider North West area against further attacks.
The Donegal Celtic fans were returning through the predominantly unionist estate shortly before 4.45pm on Saturday when they were attacked by stone thro wers.
The Belfast supporters had just watched their team’s opening IFA Championship League match against Tyrone team Dergview FC in Drumahoe.
Appealing for witnesses, a PSNI spokeswoman said today: “It was reported that stones were thrown at a bus carrying football supporters on the Glenshane Road. One of the windows was broken.”
The attack is the latest in a series to sectarian incidents to have occurred in Drumahoe and other areas of Derry, with taxi drivers, football fans and marching bands all targeted.
DUP Foyle MLA WIlliam Hay, who attended yesterday’s police meeting said: “The vast majority of people from the area who have contacted me do not want this type of violence. We are very lucky there has not been a fatality from any of these incidents to date.”
Can anyone tell me what all this incidents is about?
