Our safety is based on Theories. Theories are not facts and can be wrong and occassionally are wrong.
The reason this experiment is going ahead is because scientists don't know what will happen. If they knew what would happen, then wouldn't need to experiment.
That said, I doubt the world will end on the 10th. The 'fun stuff' won't be happening till late October as someone mentioned previously.
I am optimistic that this expirment may reveal a lot of knowledge that we currently do not have or don't understand as a race.
Here's hoping nothing goes wrong!!
