Taking equal oppotunities too far
Air traffic controller wanted... application available in braille
AFP - Friday, July 11 03:35 pm LONDON (AFP) - A small British airport advertised for an air traffic controller -- and offered those interested an application pack in braille, media reported Friday.
According to the website for Saint Mary's Airport on the Isles of Scilly, off the southwest tip of England, controllers need to be able to keep a close eye on the changeable weather as their work "is not over-dependent upon very costly and sophisticated electronic equipment".
But applicants for the job could still ask for an application pack in large type, braille or audio format, newspapers said.
A spokesman for the local council said the wording was included on all job advertisements, while the Royal National Institute for the Blind praised its "good practice".
Fuck flying from there

Seriously, the UK has turned into an absolute fucking joke. Employers are terrified to act against employees in case they get hauled up on some jumped up discrimination charge and the PC lefties have taken over the asylum big time.
We have a distributor in the UK and last week I sent one of the lads a quotation and advised him to make sure when he sent it to his client he added his commission. The idiot then proceeded to deduct his commission from my sell price, thereby giving the end client the bargain of the year. No surprise then that the client fired his order in smartish and the young lad, instead of checking it signed it, entered it into the system then after realising his mistake he booked a doctor's appointment and got himself a 2 week sick note with "work related stress" ( I kid you not) as the reason. His gaffer was on the phone spitting fire at how stupid he was but said he can't even discipline him as he has a sick line and if he tried to pull him up for the mistake he'll it him with legal action....

Thing is tho mate, he knows that by playing the system he's protecting himself and he can't be disciplined. The most ironic thing about this is he's due a 3% commission on the order....
The UK's totally fucked up though. I hate the criminal justice system in the UK, it's gradually been eroded over the years to suit the criminals and not the victims. Social workers and civil liberties apologists have manipulated the courts to the extent that anyone found guilty of a crime just plays the victim to make sure they get some bullshit sentence. Seriously, unless the UK addresses the serious issues it has with itself, the country will implode sooner or later.

What criminal justice system? I made a post last week that a guy that killed a 17 year old girl got fined £2000 and that was it, not even a day inside!

I seen that last week. unbelievable, it really was. It makes no difference the young lassie was on the road, if you're a road user it's your responsibility to take avoiding action. They should have jailed him. Her family must be fucking sick.
The UK's on a downward spiral to civil implosion and no-one seems to do anything about it. The amount of knife crime is a disgrace for a so called first world country. Carrying a knife should carry an automatic 10 year sentence with NO parole. If the punishment is strong enough it is a deterrent. Once you start locking people up for carrying blades others will think twice before carrying them. I spent one night in the cells and swore I'd never be back inside. The country has lost all sense of community spirit, people are afraid to speak out and help others because of the risk of personal violence. It's a fucking disgrace and I can't understand why people don't take to the streets because of it.

To be honest mate, I think it would take something as serious as a war or a major natural disaster before you see any change in people's attitudes in the UK.
Think of it....would you let your Mum or Gran walk home at night alone and be comfortable with it? The UK has become one of the most insular societies I've seen in recent years. When we were kids and misbehaved there was always some adult around to give you a belt or shout at you, but nowadays no-one would dare open their mouth in case they were pulled up on some charge or other, or worse still, assaulted by kids who don't give a fuck and who know that the worst they'll get is some sort of asbo which is meaningless. I read somewhere that each asbo issued costs something like 50 grand by the time it's worked it's way through the system. Jaw droppingly fucked up!
I would start by levvying fines on the parents of under 16's who are caught carrying weapons, drugs or caught drinking. If the parents are out of work, take it off the benefit. Maybe then they'll face up to their responsibilities as parents instead of basically not giving a fuck.
And as for educating prisoners...don't fucking make me laugh.
