I'm sorry but i have to agree with Martin here. Ok the guy was in jail for murder. But that has nothing to do with this. The guys sayd the only reason he was there was becuase the police moved them into a hotel. Then the hotel security removed everyone out of the hotel so they ended up back on the street waiting on thier bus to pick them back up to take them back to Blackpool where they were staying. A policeman went towards his mate as if to hit him for nothing so all he was doing was trying to get the police not to hit his mate for nothing. Then the dog police arrived and all hell broke loose.
Now i aint saying he neevr started anything, But innocent until proven guilty. I have been in the position of being innocent and the police trying to set me up. Let me tell ya, It wasn't nice.

Obviously people have rioted. WTF ?
It is still important that when doling out guilt it is pinned on those who were proven to be rioting.
If it came to light that, in another case altogether, someone had been the victim of police brutality, would you not want the officer being blamed to be PROVEN guilty ?
EDIT
I missed the last part of your post.
It is not a cheap shot. You are being oversensitive about it. It is a fact that somewhere, sometime, someplace someone will have been wrongly batoned. That's a fact Tamster. My pointing that out is not an insinuation that cops go round willy nilly laying in to innocent folk. But it has happened.

YOU NEVER ANSWERED THIS PART MARTIN ???
If your son or daughter was being attacked by a mob , would you object to Police using batons to protect your family then, or would you need EVIDENCE and WRITTEN PROOF that you family was at serious risk first ????
If a seem OVER SENSITIVE it's because i've been in that position.

A wee question for you Martin.
If you had been aproached by a couple of coppers with Batons and police dogs in a hostile enviroment.
Would you.
A) move away as quickly as possible in an orderly manner.
or
B) Step forward towards the police motioning your hands up to the policeman’s face.
The man in question chose option B with his pals trying to stop him. Or at least that is what the picture depicts.
Where I do agree with you is innocent until proven Guilty.
It just looks to me though that the photographic evidence is quite strong evidence wich points to this guy´s guilt.

It must be true because the MURDERER said so and he must be believed over Police officers being attacked by a rampaging mob.

Hold on a minute here. For all we know that policeman could have been going towards that guy and his pals might have been trying to help him from getting batonned. I have been battoned for nothing before. Police can and do over react at times.
And the if my son or daughter was being attacked, whats that got to do with this? All this pictures shows is that a policeman is moving towards a guy with a baton. I think this has been blwon out of all proportion here.

You never answered ANY of my questions.
I will answer and the answer is no. The scenario you describe seems pretty clear cut to me and that the proof was in front of my eyes.
Where you have gone wrong here Tamster is that you have take my request for proof of his guilt (which is a pretty basic tenet of our system of justice) as a criticism of the police. I don't know how you have made that leap.
As it happens I find the attempts, by Rangers and their media poodles, to blame GMP laughable. But you seem to think that I have a problem with an innocent person being batoned during a riot. I don't. As I have pointed out (and was criticised for it by you) innocent people will get hurt in a riot. I accept that, and I do not blame the police for it. You are being oversensitive about that.
My problem is not with that but it is with calling someone guilty without proof. I would hate to see a cop have his career ruined by being charged with brutality without it being proven.
BTW the picture above - I see the huns kinda saying 'don't hit us, calm doon !'. And i see the cop as waving the baton to disperse him. I do not see the cop hitting him. So I will not presume either that the cop hit him WITHOUT PROOF.

There lies the problem.
The picture is a split second of what probably occured over a period of about 40-60 seconds.
You make your judgement on one snapshot.
Do you really think the Police had time to pick out the odd innocent Hun and just baton the,.
If you watched ANy of the CCTv, you would see it was purely about staying alive in a situation like that.
I make mine on 18 years of experience of dealing with similar situations.
If the guy was a Tim, the situation would be exactly the same BTW

Rioting no, not from one picture.
However confronting a police officer in an agressive manner. I would say that picture shows that quite clearly.
Do you not think a fair minded individual would have been removing himself from a volatile situation instead of going to meet it?
BTW I do agree as I said earlier Innocent til proven guilty it must be the only way.
You must agree though that the pics are quite damning towards the guy as he is motioning towards the police in an agressive manner?

I must agree ? Really ? I see the hun with his hands up because he doesn't want batoned.
His mate with the short trousers on has clearly got a look that says 'don't hit us'.
Innocent until proven guilty.
