Further to the 'Religious Debate' which has been a cracking read due to the quality of replies, I was wondering about another subject which I find more disturbing than interesting.
Now, I do not advocate cruelty in any shape or form - I want to make that clear from the start as I'm sure many of you have animals of your own.
However, watching 'Animal Welfare' this morning on BBC1, I personally, find it disgusting when I see an animal which is hurt or injured getting virtual 'private hospital' treatment.
With so many people dying all over the world how can we justify spending so much on these animals?
Should those people who pay for animal treatment be asked to donate it to 'human' charities. Why not put an animal out of its misery rather than prolonging its life?
Now, I live in the country and have a cat for the sole purpose of ridding the place of mice. It lives outside, gets fed everyday and if it was to get injured I would have it put down and get another one.
Perhaps, an exception may be made for the likes of guide dogs who really are vital for humans in creating a better quality of life. Others who may be exempt may be elderly living on their own who need a 'companion.'
However, I find the level of animal welfare at present to be nothing short of disgusting and those who pay so much for their pampered pooches need, in my humble opinion, a good boot in the bolloxs.
Animals are animals and need to be treated as such.
On a lighter - and truthful - note, passing through the countryside this morning I noticed a new batch of lovely little lambs, all I could think of was a lovely Sunday dinner
