Icon18 When we were kids

I posted something like this before but this is another one that i seeing elsewhere.

When we were wee

I'm sure a lot of you will have seen this, but I think it's class and worth posting in case anyone hasn't:

"According to today’s regulators & bureaucrats, we kids of the 70s and early 80s probably shouldn’t be alive today:

Our baby cots were covered with brightly coloured lead-based paint which we promptly chewed and licked off.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, or latches on doors or cabinets and it was fine to play with pans.

When we rode our bikes we wore no helmets, just flip flops and fluorescent spokey dokey’s on our wheels.

We would ride in cars with no seatbelts or airbags and sitting in the front was a treat.

We drank water from puddles and garden hoses, not from a bottle – and it tasted the same.

We ate chips, sweets, drank fizzy juice with sugar in it but we were never fat because we were outside playing.

We shared one drink with 4 friends, drinking from the same bottle, and no-one actually died from this.

We spent hours building go carts out of scraps and then went top speed down the hill, only to find we forgot the brakes. After crashing into stinging nettles a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We would leave home in the morning and play all day long as long as were back before dark. No-one was able to reach us and no-one minded.

We didn’t have playstations, x-boxes or video games. There weren’t 99 channels on the TV, no DVD’s, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no personal computers and no internet chat rooms.

We had friends and we went outside to find them. We played bulldogs and street rounders and sometimes that ball really hurt.

We fell out of trees and off walls and even broke bones but there were no law suits.

We had full fist fights but weren’t prosecuted by other parents.

We played knock door run and were actually afraid that we might get caught.

We walked to each other’s houses and believe it or not, to school! We didn’t rely on Mummy and Daddy driving us round the corner.

We made up games with sticks and balls.

We rode on bikes in packs of 7 and wore our coats by only the hood.

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of – they actually sided with the law!

We had freedom, failure, success & responsibility – and we learned to deal with it."

This probably only applies to 10% of ppl on here LOL

Re: When we were kids

nowadays you have to worry about rapists and kidnappers so children cant run about for hours without being contacted.
The fact that there are thousands more cars and fatser cars along with more roads doesnt help this fact either.
Nowadays we actually go to places where they have real go karts with engines and race and its a lot more fun.
As for the rest of it, its probably true!!

Re: When we were kids

I honestly think technology is killing kids childhoods and taking their freedom away from them.

I.E. When i was a kid at xmas there would be about 100 kids out on bikes at 7:00 xmas morning nowadays the streets are dead until about 2:00 in the day.

In the summer you could have a 20 a side football match for 5 hours each way 7 days a week nowadays kids last 20 mins playing football and they bearly make up the numbers for a 4 a side.

poor bastads dunno what there missing

Re: When we were kids

too true , being one of the 10% , its all true but society has changed . kids arent safe anymore to much weirdos to much danger for them.
but when they do go out to play it gives us oldies a chance to have a go on their playstations , then we go out and get our own games then we get computers then we get the internet then we go on forums and we dont do much all else because we get hooked and the kids wait until we go out so they can get a go .
