Sectarian or not?

Read the roll of honour for Ireland's bravest men
We must be united in memory of the ten,
England you're a monster, don't think that you have won
We will never be defeated while Ireland has such sons.

In those dreary H-Block cages ten brave young Irishmen lay
Hungering for justice as their young lives ebbed away,
For their rights as Irish soldiers and to free their native land
They stood beside their leader - the gallant Bobby Sands.
Now they mourn Hughes in Bellaghy,
Ray McCreesh in Armagh's hills
In those narrow streets of Derry they miss O'Hara still,
They so proudly gave their young lives to break Britannia's hold
Their names will be remembered as history unfolds.

Through the war torn streets of Ulster the black flags did sadly sway
To salute ten Irish martyrs the bravest of the brave,
Joe McDonnell, Martin Hurson, Kevin Lynch, Kieran Doherty
They gave their lives for freedom with Thomas McElwee.
Michael Devine from Derry you were the last to die
With your nine brave companions with the martyred dead you lie
Your souls cry out "Remember, our deaths were not in vain.
Fight on and make our homeland a nation once again !"

I think not!!!!

Not a sectarian song by any means. It is a song to remember the hunger strikers of 1981, Sands, Hughes, McCreesh, O'Hara, McDonnell, Hurson, Lynch, Doherty, McElwee, Devine. Their memory lives on.

This song remembers 10 brave men that gave their lives for a just cause. It is a song to honour them as people. It is not sectarian or offensive. It doesn't have nothing to do with football but to brand it as sectarian is pish. Everyone needs to take a long hard look at the situation these days. I will post on this later.

Exactly and I specified in the poll to post why you think it is. If your gonna have your say in a poll at least have the baws to explain why.
I'm surprised at the amount of replys. I thought the issue of appropriate songs was high up in most tims minds?? If you would rather pst about pishy speculation and slagging matches then ggod on you but I feel this issue needs to be spoken about song by song!!!

As far I see all the "no" voters dosn't have made argues as well.
Why you don't complain over them? Because they vote it same as you?

Btw, I don't think "Roll Of Honour" are a sectarian song.
But the Irish Hunger Strike, the imprisonment of the ten people etc. happens for a reason. And there have to be two perceptions to make a conflict.
The hunger strike have impact on national voting for Sinn Féin etc. So the song mean something, also for people who don't feel the same way about Bobby Sands, IRA etc. as your people.

" England you're a monster, don't think that you have won
We will never be defeated while Ireland has such sons."

Sorry, but I have to say that maybe SOME people could hear this as anti-English lyric. And could maybe feel that kind of lyric as a kind of "sectarian".

Yes. I'm the person who voted yes. Actully is where a fault. I would have voted no. But shit happens. I don't feel Roll Of Honour are sectarian. I'm just saying...
When you salute people who died for a reason, there have to be a opposite. And when you sing this song you're a kind of supporting the IRA martyrs.

The world isn't black/white. And none political conflicts are black/white. And the conception "sectarian song" isn't always black/white.

See my point?

Don't get me wrong. I like the song. And it's on my mp3-player amongst other Celtic-related songs.

But take a break guys. You'r sounds like ancient people who had got the idea that the "yes" voter where a witch.

Cheers mates

Btw, I ain't that good to explain myself in English. And I really don't want to use my whole weekend to debate with 113 people who all mean I'm a idiot.
