Hitler v Stalin most evil?

Who was most evil? Was the biggest stroke of luck in history that these insane world leaders cancelled each other out in WW2

Hitler was responsible the 6M Jewish deaths in the camps plus the deaths of everyone who died in the war. Although the policy of appeasement helped no-one

Stalin killed 20M of his own people during his 5 year plans and killed many Generals etc due to his paranoid (must have been a tim)

discuss?

the thing about hitler was that as long as you were not in one of his hate groups you were fine. but for stalin no one was safe. although i think hitler was more evil for the way he targetted the Jews.

Hitler I would not say evil as it does not exist but he was just trying to improve germany and clear out the jews etc becuase he use to live in austria as a poor boy and all the rich bankers were jews so his hate grew and grew.

Hitler went to war becuase he was bring his land back from which the treaty of versalles took away, the second world war was so bad becuase britian and france hid behind appeasment and the problem only grew worse and worse untill germany was rearmed and took the polish corrador back which made France and britian act.

Stalin just killed his own people for I don't know what reason.

As an individual rather than regieme I think Stalin was worse. Read 'Hitler and Stalin' by Alan Bullock which compares them. You actually find the Hitler chapters light relief. Hitler was more interesting cause he was an evil visionary fanticist who could not stand the sight of blood himself. Stalin was just a paraonoid psycho who would have been a murderer even if he had just had an ordinary life. My opinion is the other way round if we are comparing the regiemes rather than the individuals. Also, read Halliday's 'Mao'. He was pure evil. Had to stop readng it and swith to Rodger's Profanosaurus instead cause it makes you want to string yourself up.

Actually, the opinions of the Polish guys here would be worth more than ours cause they really suffered being stuck between Hitler and Stalin.

i would recommend the fantanstic book 'Auschwitz : The Nazi and the 'Final Solution'. its a brilliant read and certainly worth the money. gives you a good insight into why the Jews were targetted and the several different methods that they used unsuccessfully to get rid of them. has interviews with Nazis and its interesting to see their point of view, and that they actually believed that Hitler's actions were for the best.

Richard Overy's book 'The Dictators' compares the two through an examination of the societies they created. As already mentioned, Stalin was a paranoid nutjob with a warped view of Marxism, but Hitler's Germany was an evil (if it exists) system. In this book the stuff about the Soviet Union is very dry and technical but the German stuff shows the true nastiness of the mundane everyday Nazi rule.

If paraniod Stalin is a tim, then Hitler was definitely a hun.

Certainly, from the point of view of a person living in one of the ex-soviet republics most affected by Stalin's rule, Stalin is a monster that even Hitler cannot compare to. The atrocities Stalin exercited were not only on jews, but on the whole people of the countries that where under his forced influence. As plans concerning the whole world, they were both just as dangerous, but I'd say communism is worse that nazism, even if you're a jew.

Stalin was frightfully cruel with everybody, and the damage he did in Romania, Ukraine etc. can still be felt today, and it'll be a long time before we can recover. His reeducation programes (most famous was his reeducation experiment in Pitesti) were far worse that death, people were made to drink their one urine and were endlessly tortured, but never actually killed, until they finally snapped and went mad. I think that's worse than death. Add to this the starvation and poverty he subjected even his own country, and you have the world's ultimate villain IMO.

Dunno the whole story about either of them so I will not vote on the poll. But I do know the two of them caused suffering on a mass scale, so to judge who was more evil is beyond me.
