should the voting age be lowered(read on)
i think the voting age should be lowered because,as of now its 18,but if your born at the wrong time of year you will not be able to vote untill your 23,,so if your 18th birthday ,falls on i.e may 4th this year you would miss the voting bye 1 day and if ure 18th birthday is any time after that ,you wouldent get to vote for a further 5 years or untill the next general elections by that time you would be 23
so having said that ,there must be tens of thousand of people who just miss out, these people could change the country , so if the age of voting was to change by just 1 YEAR,or EVEN 6 MONTHS ,we could have a total different outcome
even people who are not 18 till next year or year after they cant vote till there 22 or 21 and so on,
amazing to think that if the voting age was 16 they would double at least the voters whoturnout on polling day,
after all
we can get married at 16
we can buy fags
we buy lottery tickets at 16
we can leave home and live alone at 16,
go on holiday abroad at 16
THEY CAN drive a car morerbike
and i bet there is more stuff 16 yearolds can do legally
but they cant have a say in who makes these decicions
STRANGE OR WHAT

Nope. The voting age is fine by me. You shouldn't be able to vote until you're mature enough to listen to the arguments being made and generally take the process seriously.
The problem with younger voters is that they would be voting on issues which didn't directly affect them yet like tax levels.

I wouldn't bother lowering it, however I can see what you are saying. In instances like that then it does raise a fair question. I aint intending to vote anyway so even If I was in that category I wouldn't give a toss.

dave ure right too, but imagine lowering it by 6 months or 3 months,, thats still a lot of people who will not get the chance untill there 23 surly thats unfair

If you put it back to allow people to vote then where do you stop?
15 year olds?
Can of worms which should stay closed.

I like politcs, but if you lower it, there will keep being arguments of ho people are missing it, it'll never stop.
And plus kids arent realy intrested in politics much over here.

good point davie as long as it was only by 3 - 6 months but i think i have to agree with the ppl who are against lowering it as all the wee neds would be voting for the green party (still exist?) "cos they wan tae legalize hash man know whit ah mean n we cood get kerryoots easier tae cos we wid huv rights tae kno?" That is just one example and i bet there are many more viable reasons that the voting age stays at 18 but i know where your comin from.

So you make it so that people who are going to turn 18 in say 6 months get a vote but what happens to the person that then wants to vote but misses but by a day (as Davie said people born on 4th May 1989 cant vote in this years)?
Do you then let them vote to? No because the way it is the now is fine as GD said their needs to be an age limit on it as to when people become old enough to understand the issues
