ac milans woes continuie after player fails dope test

ROME : AC Milan's moderate season worsened as striker Marco Borriello was revealed to have failed a drugs test.

The 24-year-old tested positive for cortisone according to a statement released by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).

"The Rome laboratory discovered the presence of Prednisone and Prednisolone (substances which indicate the use of cortisone)" read the statement from CONI.

Borriello, scorer of one goal in seven appearances this season, was tested after the 2-1 home defeat by AS Roma on November 11 and is the first Serie A player to fail a dope test this term.

Borriello, signed from Sampdoria in the summer, will have his file passed on to the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) who will decide what his punishment should be.

Milan have had a torrid time this year being docked eight points for their role in the match fixing scandal and are just five points above the relegation zone with just six wins in 17 matches.

It really does seem like corruption is rampant in Italy. Really kills off all the gloss you would have expected the Seria a to have got with Italy winning the world cup. Hopefully the punishments being handed down will sort things out.

Alot of players will get away with it, hence the reason other players try it. It's still stupid though, kind of thing that might put clubs off buying you, or even having a look at you. When you thought of Italian football you'd think of style and flair...now when you hear it you just think of scandal and corruption.
