What were Sven's credentials

before he was given the Engerland job? He sure made a mess of the 2006 campaign (which is OK). I pity McClaren but I suppose the millions will help him cope!

To sit and pretend to be interested in the match as it rolls in the money for him...

Seria A Champions with Lazio was his biggest achievement

Finacial mismanagement similar to leeds took Lazio to the gutter, hardly Sven's fault.
He also was hugely successful in Portugal with Benfica.
People say he bought the title at Lazio, but it's not just as easy as that. Look at Inter Milan, they spend more than anyone and have not won the scudetto in near 20 years.

People also slate Erikkson because Scolari has "outwitted" him 3 times.
looking at it a little more closely -
2002 Beat by Brazil 2-1 by basically a Ronaldinho fluke. Also Brazil's team was vastly superior to englands
2004- Scolari manages host nation Portugal. Being host nation is a huge advantage to begin with. Portugal win on penalties. That is a lottery, out of both managers control
2006- Portugal win on penalties, same as above.
Incidently, Scolari's tactics after Rooneys sending off were terrible which resulted in a lottery at the end.

At Lazio Sven spent over £160 million !!

He bought Salas, Veron, Crespo, Stankovic, Almeyda and Peruzzi for £100 million.

He bought Mendieta for £30 million and was sold to Boro for £2 million.

He also bought Fiore and Giannichedda for £15 million each.

Mendietta was hottest midfielder in Europe at the time.

The manager identifies the players, the executive makes the deal.
From what I see Sven identified very good players. The money is nothing to do with him.

All I'm saying is £160 million for 1 Scudetto is a poor return. I could have managed that club and got better results.

i like sven and i think he did a good job at england considering the amout of presure put on him by the fans and the media and it is because of this presure england will never win another competition and the player will continue to underacheive eventhough some of them are amoung the best in the world.
he done well to last as long as he did with all the shit about his personall life

Very true, Sven's Lazio never even looked like doing anything in the CL, and it wasn't long before Sven had to start selling the player's he knew he couldn't afford

Like I said previously, similar sums have been spent at Inter Milan with no league titles being delivered and a host of top managers coming in. Perhaps you should apply for that job if its that easy!

2 that spring to mind in recent years are Lippi (legend) and Hector Cupar (european success at Valencia)
