The situation as it stands in the U.K

Although this whole post might seem racist, and if any of the admins think so they can delete it straight away. I was just wondering what everyones views were on the sheer amount of foreigners coming into our countries? I know the owner of this site (CelticMad) can vouch for this perhaps because he lives in the same place as me. A few years back I could walk down town, now a city, and through the shopping centres etc.. and know nearly everyone that walked past to talk to or see. Now when I walk down town the majority are foreigners, no-one in my area seems to be actually a national anymore. I was reading in a decent newspaper not too long ago that in 10 years (i think it was 10 years) that 1/5 of the whole population of Ireland will be immigrants. The polish members on this know I am not racist, I've stuck up for them on many an occasion on this, but I'm thinking we've got far too many in now and its got beyond a joke. Anyone got any differing views on this?

There are hoards and hoards of foreigners lands on Irish shores these days and as you say 5-10 years ago if you saw a foreigner it was a weird site.

But to be honest Ireland has a big history of the migration of its people to other countries. We would be hypocritical to complain.

I am a bit uncomfortable with it but thats because I'm not used to it but belfast and Northern Ireland is booming at the moment which will attract more and more foreigners.

They come mostly for jobs and housing. In Belfast you would mostly see Forenigers working in Fast Food Outlets, Hospitals etc. But i don't have a problem with it there's a good few Philipinoes in my school and i get along with them.

Yea it would be double standards as u say Liam since us Irish travelled over to America in the 1800's in our thousands but I suppose it is just because we're not used to it. I don't have a problem with them at all either, but I think there has to be a cap put on it sooner or later or it'll get out of control. I think since Lithuania joined the European Union then free movement around European countries has helped with the increasing numbers coming to Ireland!

I suppose there's going to have to be a stop to it espically if they are putting our own people out of jobs etc.

a lot of people who hate the foreigners use the excuse "they're taking all our jobs" etc... but most of the ones in my area do the shitty jobs none of us want to do in a million years. But i think trades such as bricklaying are suffering a lot because the greedy bosses are paying foreigners half the money for the same work

Not every foreign person you seen will live here, especially in the city centre, Glasgow is a major tourist destination now so a lot of these foreigners will be here on holiday not permanently living here.

yea they're welcome, but how many? I think 1/5 of the Irish population being a non-National is a bit over the top

They come to work, not to sponge. More often than not its to do the jobs that we turn our noses up at. The biggest spongers in Ireland/Scotland are not the hard working immigrant, its the bone idle social claiming natives, around 25% in Glasgow I believe

I do agree that there should be a cap as we could easily lose our culture very quickly in certain areas of the island. That should never be allowed to happen.

Hi not to get all political and complicated but the 25% is bull. Glasgow is obvisly by far the largest city in Scotland but its only the 4th largest on terms on land.

Glasgow's boundry is so small that the most afliant areas are conciders not actualy part of the city.

Funnily enough mate, I was thinking the exact same thing last week. The sheer amount of foreigners here is unbelievable, and the majority of them are Polish.

You might know the place, you know the houses next to the Brass Monkey, opposite Sandys Street? I think every single one of them is owned or rented out by foreigners and one has Portuguese flag sticking out his window.

It might take a while to get used to seeing all these foreigners invade the place
