Celtic’s McGeady to be dropped to the bench?

Celtic’s McGeady to be dropped to the bench?

Celtic’s wing wizard Aiden McGeady has enjoyed a sparkling run of form in recent weeks. Having scored again at the weekend against Motherwell, he is the third top scorer at the club this season, and has also provided numerous assists through the campaign thus far.

McGeady - stand-out performer this season.

Nonetheless, it is another statistic that appears to leave his chances of featuring this weekend against Hearts as – at best – doubtful.

The young Irishman has already picked up four yellow cards, and a red card so far this season. As such, he sits a mere one booking away from a suspension. Picking up a yellow card at Tynecastle would mean that the influential performer would miss the crucial Old Firm encounter on the 3rd of January, and that must surely be deemed as too great a risk for a man who has been the SPL’s stand-out performer this season.

While it is fair to say that the absence of the midfielder in ANY game would be a blow to Celtic’s chances, it would appear prudent for Bhoys gaffer Tony Mowbray to rely on his other options in midfield, to give his team every chance of maintaining their stranglehold at the top of the league table.
