Arsenal target Lawwell?
Arsenal target Lawwell?
It is being reported that Celtic’s commander in chief Peter Lawwell has been short listed for the vacant job of CEO at Arsenal.
The London club is thought to be favouring two candidates, one of which is Vodafone's Paul Donovan, Chief executive for Central Europe, the Middle East and Asia. With Vodafone's continued commitment to football sponsorship, Donovan would seem to be an ideal candidate.
However Arsenal are known for their prudent approach to financial management and on paper at least Lawwell could be a perfect fit. His successful management of Celtic, since taking the reins in 2003 has been impressive. Taking the club from heavy debt to financial security over his tenure, while still achieving fantastic success out on the pitch, both domestically and in Europe. It was somewhat inevitable, that other clubs or institutions would look his way.
The announcement of Arsenal's next Chief Executive is expected to be made sometime during the next fortnight. With a reported £1 million a year pay check being offered, this job certainly would seem to have its advantages. However most Celtic fans would hope the lure of the EPL along with the big bucks on offer, would not be enough to turn Lawwell’s head.
