Celtic and Thomas Gravesen go their separate ways
It has been agreed today that Celtic Football Club and Thomas Gravesen will part company with immediate effect. It's been reported that the former Real Madrid and Everton midfielder received a pay out of around £1.2m.
Thomas has said that he'd like to wish the Celts all the best for the future, while the Celts have returned the good wishes.
It's safe to say that the two years in which Thomas spent at the club weren't the happiest of his career. He signed in August 2006 from Spanish giants Real Madrid, just before the transfer window closed, for a fee of around £2m.
After a very promising start to his Hoops career - including a goal against Rangers and a hat trick against St Mirren - he was soon replaced in the starting XI by Dutch midfielder Evander Sno.
After not getting much of a look in at the end of the 06/07 season, the Hoops accepted Everton's offer to take Gravesen on a season-long loan for the 07/08 season. He featured only eight times for Everton and Toffees manager, David Moyes, confirmed that Thomas would return to Celtic at the end of the season.
Thomas played his last match for the Hoops in a preseason friendly against Man City at Parkhead earlier on this month. His performance, which didn't set the world alight by any stretch of the imagination, rather summed up the last eighteen months of his career.
News about Gravesen's departure comes as a great relief to most Celtic fans as it means it gets his high wages off the bill, possibly freeing up a bit of extra cash to bring in another player before the summer transfer window comes to an end on August 31.
