A Case For The Defence
Robinson & Tamas en route?
Celtic today appeared poised to place a bid for West Bromwich Albion's left sided defender Paul Robinson on a day which has also seen Gabriel Tamas's agent state a move to Celtic is still on the cards.
'Robbo' joins a long list of potential signings linked with the club in recent months including Michal Kadlec, Razvan Rat and Vitorino Antunes for a left back spot that Strachan has clearly targeted as a position needing strengthened. The 29 year old former England Under 21 cap has a year left to run on his current deal and with WBA stalling over a renewal, Celtic see it as an ideal opportunity to land the 5'9" defender at a cut price.
The Tamas deal, which had seemed to be dead and buried only days ago with several other clubs registering an interest, now looks as if it could be back on. His agent has stated that with Parkhead being his chosen destination his wage demands will fall in line with those offered to him by the club initially;
"The money Celtic want to pay and what Gabriel is ready to accept is very similar now. Gabriel's preference is to join Celtic. That is why he was willing to reduce his own demands to make it happen."
With the transfer window rumbling on it's clear to see Strachan will not rest until he has found the defensive recruits he feels the club requires to sustain the domestic dominance and to climb the next rung of European competition.
