Lewandowski & Stranzl linked as Celtic look set to splash some serious cash
Polish powerhouse Mariusz Lewandowski has been linked today with a move to Celtic. His current employers, Shakhtar Donetsk who value Lewandowski at around £5million. Claimed today that the SPL champions have opened talks with them about the 6ft 1in holding midfielder.
Lewandowski who played for Poland in all three group games at Euro 2008 was one of only a few Polish players to shine. Strachan saw at first hand Lewandowski´s qualities as he impressed when Donesk and Celtic met in the Champions league. The Celtic boss hopes to head off a host of clubs which include Aston Villa, Bolton, Wigan and Portsmouth for the uncompromising midfielder. Lewandowski has also indicated his desire to play for Celtic saying "I'm on holiday just now, but there are people dealing with this situation who I trust. "Celtic are a big club and play regularly in the Champions League, so it would be a good place to play my football."
It is also widely reported that Spartak Moscow’s central defender Martin Stranzl, continues to be high on the list of targets. Spartak Moscow are looking to activate a 12-month extension to Stranzl´s current contract, in an attempt to keep hold of the talented Austrian International, whose value is rated at £3.5m. However, the 27-year-old's agent, Thomas Boehm, has indicated an offer from Celtic, who watched him during the finals of Euro 2008 would be considered. Bohem is also quoted as saying "Martin is happy at Spartak but he has always been very interested in playing for one of the big teams in England or Scotland. Spartak have already tabled an offer for him to stay in Moscow, but nothing is being ruled in or out at this stage."
Clearly Celtic are making moves within the transfer market with Gordon Strachan’s net closing in on a clutch of targets, as he looks set to splash some serious cash.
