Old Firm Ambition?
Old Firm Ambition?
Today Rangers looked to have acquired their third striker of the summer. Not so Prolific Northern Ireland and Burnley forward Kyle Lafferty looks set to join equally non prolific Kenny “Second touch a Stramash” Miller and journeyman Lithuanian Andrius Velicka from one of the super powers of European football Norwegian side Viking.
On the other hand Celtic are dealing at a much lower level. As today they are linked with the not so highly rated pair Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko. England International and 16 million pound Spurs front man Darren Bent is on Gordon Strachan’s Radar along with 10 million plus rated Roman “Scores a Lot” Pavlyuchenko. Reports suggest it is not a case of either, it’s a case of looking to acquire both.
Also according to Vanni Puzzolo, agent for Matteo Brighi who plays in the backwater of European Football with Italian giants AS Roma. He revealed that Celtic have enquired about Brighi´s availability and also is quoted "if Roma are looking to sell then why shouldn’t the player be interested in moving to Celtic?"
“The club is guaranteed Champions League football and plenty of Italian players have gone to Scotland and enjoyed success“ Matteo is well aware of the talk about Celtic and knows they are a good club, but until Roma inform us of their plans for the new season there is no point in saying anymore.”
From the above transfer activity it is obvious for all to see of which of the Old Firm is showing the most ambition. Quite clearly it is Rangers, they are pilfering Europe´s elite Derby, Burnley and the mighty Viking.
While in contrast Celtic’s lack of ambition looking to bring in players from the backwaters of the English Premier League and Italy’s Serie A not to mention the unwanted Roman “Scores a lot” Pavlyuchenko.
Hey that’s my take on it, I am sure most would have a different one.
