Blackburn consider Bellamy swoop

Blackburn consider Bellamy swoop

Blackburn manager Mark Hughes is willing to offer Craig Bellamy a permanent escape route from Newcastle.
The 25-year-old Wales striker joined Celtic on loan in January until the end of the season following his fall-out with Magpies boss Graeme Souness.

However, former Wales manager Hughes is hoping to raise the £5m needed to land Bellamy but faces opposition from the Glasgow giants.

He said: "I made an enquiry in January and it's something I'll look at again."

Hughes told The Sun newspaper: "It is Newcastle's decision whether they want to keep Craig, but he is a player I obviously know well from my time as Wales manager.

"A striker is something for the summer and the sooner we can secure our Premiership status, the sooner we can plan for the future.

"We will look at a number of players in the summer."

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell, who is understood to be in talks with Newcastle to make Bellamy's move permanent, said: "Craig has been a huge success and everyone at Celtic is delighted with him.

"He has fitted in brilliantly and we have no complaints about him on or off the park. The board know the fans would love him to stay - we want him to stay too."

I know Blackburn have the money and that, but Bellamy won't be getting Champion's League football and I'm sure a player of his class wants that!

I was just thinking that maybe Arsenal done us a favour today by dumping Blackburn. Just say Blackburn had made it into the final and by chance won the cup, that means European football and that may just have tempted Bellamy to Ewood Park. As it stands now they are going to win nothing and aren't going to be in Europe next season, so I personally can't see any attraction that would tempt him to go there next season.

wat about the temtaption of playing in one of the best leagues in europe week in week out, instead of the scottish league. wat about the temptation of playing well in one of the best leagues week in week out n having the chance of one of the top clubs in europe seeing u and buying u???

Misread my post I think Lupin, i meant what would attract him to Blackburn next season ? If Celtic make CL next season then Bellamy's gonna have plenty of chances to show top clubs in Europe what he can do.

Aye, he might follow a long list of mercenaries who used Celtic as a shop window.

True HH but even if he signed for 2 seasons he'd only be 26 or 27 if he wanted to leave and if he kept playing the way he is playing then Celtic could make an investment on him because i reckon he'd go for more than 5m

nah i got ur post mick. alls im saying is that the temptation n attraction would be playing in the EPL. thats a pretty big temptation, (as weve seen with Liam Miller) sure he would have the chance to show off in the chumps league, but wat bout the chance of being able to score gainst the likes of Man UTD, Arsenal and Chelski. thats a pretty big attraction

I agree with what you're saying about the temptation and attraction of moving down to the EPL Lupin, but what i'm saying is that I don't think it would be to Blackburn because he's got no chance of winning anything with them or getting European football if he's going to go to the EPL i think he would wait for an offer from the likes of maybe Liverpool.

I really think we're up against it, here (trying to keep Bellamy) not sure about Blackburn but I think alot of Premiership clubs will be after him. I really hope he stays because of European football, but he might be getting that and Premiership football if one of these decent Premiership clubs come in for him.
