Scotland Lack Celtic Edge
World Cup runners-up France travel to Hampden Park for the clash of the top two sides in Group B on Saturday but injuries and suspensions prevent the Scottish national side having any Celtic players in the fold.
The suspension of Kenny Miller is a major blow to Scotland as the inform striker has scored in his last two appearances for Scotland including the winner in Lithuania. And with other attacking options such as Maloney and Beattie only returning from injury and Riordian out of favour at the club, the Scottish attack will lack a cutting edge.
In defence, Mark Wilson is still sidelined with a broken foot and McManus is expected to be over-looked by manager Walter Smith for the central defensive pairing of Pressely and Weir who performed so well in the opening two fixtures. Injuries to Kevin McNaughton, Graeme Murty and Russell Anderson has stretched Smith's defensive options to breaking point as the Scots look to continue their great form of the past year.
And with good results come higher expectations and the 52,000 sell-out expect to see Scotland come away with something this Saturday evening. It must be remembered though that France have only lost one of their last forty qualifying matches however, if Scotland play to their capabilties and France have an off-day, Scottish eyes may well be smiling this weekend.

when u look at the amount of regular football mcmanus has been playing this season with celtic & compare it with the amount davie weirs playing at everton imo mick should DEFINETLY be a starter...
weir might bring experience but at his age he needs to be match fit and playing regularly to be at his most effective..
mcmanus for scotland !

Not too sure what Celtic edge you referring to Murph, for I watched the Falkirk game on a big TV last night and Celtic had individual control, but we are not using a cutting edge to score too readily?
McManus would do well, but thats Scotlands problem, let them play others for they will have to chase the French around, and McManus has less chance of injury sitting on the bench. Having said that, mcManus is ready to play when Scotland want him!
Pity Miller aint playing, he is a fireball these days, anyhoo, he can play next game!
I get to see the game live on Setanta, 9am my time I reckon a draw would be a great result, heres hoping we get something?

Miller and Maloney will be in the fold when they are available/fit. Wilson and McManus are both good shouts for a place in defence but right now all we can do is hope that Scotland get something.
I would rather Scotland win with no Celtic players than lose with some!

As far as I am concerned I am happy to see McManus on the bench tomorrow against France. Gives him a little break.

Celtic have a part to play in Scottish success. I love seeing Celtic players in the Scotland jersey.

Well Hubert maybe I am
I said we lack a Celtic edge, maybe a Celtic flavour if you like due to us not having many representing the club at national level but that did not mean I thought we would get beat. Please put on your reading glasses before making yourself look silly.
PS It's second sighted
