Important San Siro Info

NEW arrangements for the forthcoming UEFA Champions League away tie against AC Milan have today been confirmed, with photographic identification now required to gain entry to the San Siro stadium.
In light of the recent situation in Italy, supporters will now be asked by the Italian authorities to provide photographic identification (preferably passport) along with a valid ticket for the match before gaining entry to the ground.

Currently only spectators that can produce proof of being an AC Milan season ticket holder and photo ID can enter home support areas.

Our supporters are reminded that they should not travel unless they have an official ticket bought through the club.

Celtic Ticket Services will provide the Italian authorities with the names of all persons that have purchased tickets as part of the official Celtic support.......ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

Detailed below is travel advice for supporters. Visit www.celticfc.net for further information in the lead-up to the match.

The San Siro Stadium – Giuseppe Meazza Stadium

The San Siro Stadium was inaugurated on 19 September 1926, it is one of the best known stadiums in the world. Within the stadium both AC Milan and Inter Milan play their matches. The original stadium had a capacity of 10,000 seats. This has risen over the years to the current spectator capacity of 82,995. Due to ongoing improvement work, the overall capacity for the AC Milan v Celtic FC fixture has been restricted. Currently only supporters that are AC Milan season ticket holders are allowed access to areas of the stadium allocated to home fans. This has not reduced the ticket allocation to visiting Celtic supporters, which was agreed prior to the current restrictions.

Advice from the Consul
Celtic Football Club is grateful to the British Consul for providing the following travel advice and tips;
Sightseeing
The main sights to see in Milan are the Cathedral, especially a visit to the roof, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and the Castle, all within walking distance. There are a number of churches worth visiting including the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio which is basically Romanesque and the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie with Bramante’s dome and famous for Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper (booking obligatory).
Shopping
There is a central pedestrian area running from Piazza San Babila down Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Via Dante to the Castle, with many shops, mainly clothes, but also books and media. Via Torino, just off the Cathedral square, has many fashion shops, mostly for young people. Corso di Porta Ticinese has trendy, ethnic type shops for clothes and gifts.
Tuesday and Saturday mornings Viale Papiniano market is worth a visit.

Nightlife
The focal points for nightlife are the Navigli (canal district) and nearby Porta Ticinese with the many bars, restaurants and Trattorie. There is also the Corso Como area and the more up market Brera district.

Public Transport
Milan has a network of trams, buses, trolley buses and underground trains. Tickets cost €1.00 obtainable from newsagents and underground stations and are valid for 75 mins on buses and trams but can only be used for one journey on the underground. Remember to frank the tickets in the machines. A one day ticket, €3.00 lasts 24 hours and must only be franked once and can be used on any means of transport. The main ticket and information office is ATM Point in the Duomo Metro Station (Cathedral Tube station).

San Siro Stadium
The stadium can be reached by metro, red line (linea 1, direction Rho Fiera ) alighting at Lotto station and walking for approximately 20 mins. Alternatively tram No. 16 (direction Axum) goes straight to the stadium from the centre. Supporters are advised to arrive at the stadium early.
The stadium can be visited daily from 10.00 – 17.00 hrs (not on match days) at a cost of €12.50. Entrance gate 21

Safety and Security
Beware of pickpockets and bag snatchers around the city centre and especially on public transport. When out sightseeing only carry what you need, leave spare cash and valuable items in hotel safety deposits. It is also advisable to make a photocopy of your passport information.
If travelling by car, remember to lock the vehicle and never leave valuables inside, even if only leaving it for a short time.

General
Visitors should always bring a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) visit website www.dh.gov.uk/travellers. This is required if admitted to an Italian State hospital.

I have a feeling people who have a ticket for the home end won't have a problem.

If you're name is on the ticket and you've got photo ID, you should be laughing!

Can't see them going through with this 'only if you're a ST' carry on. But this is only what I think.

The only advice I'll give you is don't wear colours if you're planning on getting in!

Am I delighted that I've got one for the Celtic end

I think this full set up is frankly a disgrace!!

We are sitting away at the back, and the stadium (so far) will only have 40,000 people max in it, therefore the stadium will look empty

Why should we been made to show our passports??

We are not hooligans

San Siro underwent another inspection today + as a result has been categorized up to standard, meaning attendance restrictions have been lifted. That's according to channel4.com

TBH it might be best that we got 'Green Level 3, Sectors 301-306' which is right at the top. It will stop us from getting bags of pish thrown down at us, etc.

Can't wait to get there and because they will be letting in double the amount of people, I can't see there being any problems.

Kind of shite myself about the tickets thing because I didn't order directly through the club.

I think these are all silly warnings though.

Totally up to you. For most people, it's either sit in the home end or watch it in the pub.

I have a feeling it will go ahead with a full house, as there were 67,500 at the game at the weekend I think. So I don't see a problem getting in the home end, as long as your name matches the one on the ticket and you don't wear Celtic colours.

You should get a ticket fine by ringing the Milan TO. What's stopping you from being an Irish citizen in Italy for a holiday and have decided to take in a football match while you're there?
