Its not a sport, no warming up for 3 hours before your round, putting your all into every shot for 6 or 7 hour, then going back to the driving ranger after the round. In temperatures that we can only dream of. Aye seem's easy. Theres a reason he can hit it further than most, because he is fitter and a better athelete.
It's mainly technique, equipment, practice and skill and like darts athleticism is not necessary so long as you can stand up and walk a fair bit or jump in a buggy. I would concede to your point if he did 18 holes in under 20 minutes.

As for sports being true sports - look at the Olympics now, it's getting silly with folk dancing under water and folk diving in time with each other.

I highly doubt that he is in amazing shape, could probably out run you, or give you a run for your money even though its not his sport.

Let's look up the definition of the word, shall we?

Sportsman: "A man who engages in sports. A male athlete."
Sport: "Any athletic activity that uses physical skills."

Tiger Woods is one of the greatest. Golf is a proper sport as it "uses physical skills".

Semantics.

I love golf I am a member of a golf club and no a bad handicap either. It is not an athletic sport. Its a great game to play. Exhausting - no, demanding - no, some skill required- yes.
I would also give darts credit as a sport if they stuck the darts in the wall and they threw the board at them from 20 yards away after a 10k run.

This is getting tiresome. The question asked was "Who is the greatest sportsman on earth" not who is the greatest athlete. The game you suggest you play is not even comparable.Tiger is a phenomenon and is certainly up ther with the best SPORTSMEN ever.

Exhausting - no:Try playing a 5 hour + round of golf 4 days in a row.
Demanding - no:I'm surprisd that being a golfer you would say that.Golf is one of the most mentally demanding sports you can play. Also being an individual sport all the demands are on you alone.
Some skill required -yes:First thing your right on.

Tiger

you could easily mistake him for being an American football player.

totally dedicated to the sport.

Well said! I never saw Ed Moses crack open a can of coke and chew on a Mars Bar when he reached the hurdle at the 200m mark. Can't ever remember seeing a proper sportsman above the age of 40 or the size of Daly, Jocky Wilson or several other darts, golf and snooker players either.

To give Tiger some credit we should pigeon hole them in the most talented game players to include darts players, snooker players, table tennis players and golf players.

Awright. In your opinion,What qualities does a sport need to qualify for your endorsement ?
