Lockett V Pavlik

The war of words is heating up between the camps of middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik and No. 1 challenger ,welshman, Gary Lockett. That could only mean one thing. The fight is close at hand.

"Pavlik's brilliant at what he does," Lockett said. "But he's no Floyd Mayweather, Joe Calzaghe or Miguel Cotto, he doesn't have their all-round game. We know what he'll do, come forward at a pace and put it all through the left hand. We've got a game plan for it."

The back and forth between the two trainers - Lockett-s man Enzo Calzaghe and Pavlik's man Jack Loew - has been down right hilarious.

Both Calzaghe and Loew are no nonsense men who have stinging wit. And they haven't been afraid to speak their minds when it comes to their fighters or their skills as trainers.

Loew went back and forth with trainer Emanuel Steward after Steward called Pavlik an ordinary fighter before his first match against Taylor, who was trained by Steward.

Loew sent the first verbal salvo Calzaghe's way last month. After watching Joe Calzaghe beat Bernard Hopkins, Loew said maybe Enzo Calzaghe could teach Lockett "to slap like a girl, just like Joe".

Calzaghe fired back that if Joe slapped then it must have been good enough to remain undefeated and knockout 32 guys.

Then Calzaghe lobbed his own verbal grenade, saying that he had to go on the internet to discover just who Loew was.

He found out that Loew paved driveways and suggested that he could go back to that once Lockett disposed of Pavlik.

"People may say I've got a puncher's chance - but is there such a thing as a lucky punch in boxing?" Lockett said. "We're both punchers with excellent knock-out records and we'll both be throwing leather early. We have a plan to work on his style, and I know that if I hit anyone in the world at my weight, they're going to go down.

"We know what Pavlik can do, but his camp don't know what we can do. They've under-estimated us by a long shot and I'm quietly confident that I can go over there and do the business."

Could be a good one ....Then again pavlik may just put him to sleep early

who's your money on renegade?

pavlik is 16-1 on, is it worth while putting a tenner on the draw at 33-1 or is pavlik gonna walk it?

I dont reckon its worth a punt , pavlik will probably blast lockett out within 6 rounds

He seems confident though , would be a huge shock if gary won this one

would love to see lockett do it and he has a very very slim chance of causing a major upset, but i think pavlik stops him before the 5th
