Supporting paramilitaries in Ireland was irrevant to equality issues in Scotland. In fact even in northern Ireland, the sovereigty issue was never the same as the equality issue. You can have equality under any flag. Far too often people confuse these two issues.

The comparison between the Irish and American Blacks is laughable, to whoever mentioned Barack Obama. They each wanted something totally different (equality vs. land) and went about it in very different ways (civil disobedience vs. violence/terrorism/whatever euphamism or passionate words you can come up with).
Blacks felt American under American oppressors more than any Irish ever felt British under British oppressors... so there was never any need for Blacks to create an institution such as Celtic to show their nationalism.

I am a Scottish, Protestant Celtc fan. The Irish connection means nothing to me.
I support Celtic because of the way they play Football, and the ethos that is printed on the back of the strip.
"Its not the creed or the colour, but the man himself"

You dont have a proper understanding of what happened in Ireland then mate, the Irish were fighting for equality too and civil rights that were being denied them by the British gov. It has not merely been about land.
Plus you cant just say the Blacks went about their goals in a wholly peaceful way and the Irish used only violence and terror. The Blacks in America resorted to violence aswel, and we Irish held peaceful civil rights protests etc.
Blacks felt American under American oppressors more than any Irish ever felt British under British oppressors... so there was never any need for Blacks to create an institution such as Celtic to show their nationalism.

If you are insinuating that the American Blacks were anywhere near as violent as the Irish then you need to take off those green tinted spectacles. I'm not saying that either were all to one side, but that doesn't mean that they were the same... not even close.

Im not insinuating anything, i mean what i said and you can take it at face value. No need for the cheek. I have not said they were the same and dont believe them to be the same, was merely correcting what i believe to be an overly polarised post by your good self.

i personally think that singing ira songs r not sectarian songs, they are political songs, although i do think the singing of them at games is wrong. I also have to admit that i do engage in singing them at pubs and bars etc...we know we are not allowed to sing them at games, so shouldn't sing them,. We have plenty of other songs to sing, and should continue to sing these. Our friends across the city have very little songs left to sing, we should be above them and show who r the real people!

No one is asking that songs with any connection to Ireland should be stopped, just those about the IRA. Quite what the IRA have to do with us playing in Inverness on a Tuesday night (or whenever) is beyond me.

The one thing I think is strange about this, is that in America you can sing or say whatever you want. There was a Neo-Nazi march a couple of years ago through one of the most Jewish neighborhoods in the country. It isn't because they agree with them, but it avoids the situation we are in now... just where do you draw the line?

Michael Davitt was a member of the IRB, a republican and nationalist. He was asked to lay the centre-turf at Celtic Park at the time of the football club's inauguration in 1888.
Celtic have always had a strong connection to Irish politics. People say they have no place at CP but they have always been there.

blacks in the us and immigrant irish in scotland? there are more similarities than differences . two populations forcably displaced and used to fuel a society where they were considered fodder.what annoyed the dominators so much is that these people could rally and give birth to a football team who would surpass anything they could achieve on the field of popular sport.jesse owen upset america as jimmy upset the british.wake up guys and girls. the most important thing you will ever do is follow celtic.I welcome our scottish protestant friend who posted.you are a class act.
