Well i am a republican and have been for a long time, and i do sing ra songs at home before the games and when im over in glasgow for games and go to hoops bars etc, but i dont agree with the singing at cp, its nothing to do with footy!!!
save it for after the game, and regardless what we all think> its against the rules!!!
and it will not be long before points are taken off clubs, namely us and the huns, and i hope we are not the fall guys for the rest of them!!

Who are we going to 'scare off' from signing? Lafferty? Healy? Barry Ferguson? Chelsea are pretty well known for having scumbag thug fans and look who they've signed.
"If I had gone to a game where a small minority were to engage in IRA chants, would that have been advantageous to Celtic?" - Gregory Campbell
Advantageous? In what capacity would having this Loyalist fucker in our stadium ever be advantageous?
Yes Celtic Football Club/PLC are a sports organisation and should have absolutely nothing to do with politics, but that doesn't mean our fans can't. It's okay to have Smash Fascism banners but it's not okay to sing anti-Loyalist songs? What gives? We admire our friends at St Pauli for standing up against the right-wing neo Nazis that surround them in Hamburg, but demonise our own supporters for being a vocal minority?
I do not want Celtic to be a political vehicle, I don't expect them to be announcing links with RSF or any of those cunts, but that doesn't mean our fans cannot share their own beliefs and celebrate them. And what's the deal with these deluded folk saying Celtic fans have nothing to do with Republicanism or any of that? Stop kidding yourself. Go to ANY Irish Rebel gig, or to any of the Celtic pubs on a matchday where they will be blasting Rebel music and the place will be swamped in Hoops shirts.

Pretty much agree with that post

I don't mind people singing rebel songs at the game and to be honest with you i'd join in. But , now the club is under scrutiny and although I don't think the songs are sectarian , the higher powers eg. Fifa and Uefa probably do. So if singing rebel songs at the games , is going to damage the club then I might to think twice about singing them.

nothing wrong with singing Irish ballads at celtic park, the problem is with singing songs directly connected to the irish republican army. at the end of the day fields of athenry and let the people sing are irish ballads and they are allowed , so lets not get mixed up with them both ,where by we wont be singing any songs at all connected to ireland .at the end of the day celtic are an Irish club that happend to be based in Scotland .so lets not forget our roots and identity by giving the p.c. brigade an excuse to ban all songs related to old ireland.

You cant know Scotland at all except in the narrowest way. Most Scots do not fall into either the uber-hun or tim category. If you think they do you just dont know the country or have been listening to people with axes to grind. The area around Glasgow and the SW has subcultures close to northern Ireland but the rest of the country thinks this is weird. So at away games, both the republican and loyalist stuff is often seen as a weird unwelcome agressive intrusion of someone elses quarrels into their ground. The singers of the songs often look like hate filled bampots.
I would say about 90-odd% of Scots do not condone the IRA, the vast majority, not just uber-huns or mad right wingers (Scotland never votes right wing BTW - we are a left wing country). So its not just a few huns that are offended. Its the vast majority. Even a large number of Scots catholics cant condone IRA violence for religious reasons. You cant allow open singing at other peoples grounds of songs that inflame the majority.
Who are we going to 'scare off' from signing? Lafferty? Healy? Barry Ferguson? Chelsea are pretty well known for having scumbag thug fans and look who they've signed.

Is it wise for a minority to sing repiublican songs in a place that also has another minority of Ulster-inspired loyalism? Its simply not common sense and at times its all about hate and finger up and potentially could be read as incitement.

Shoe on other foot. When orange bands were invited to Dublin a few years ago there were riots. The reason: there is a time and a place for most things and Dublin is not the place for British nationalistic marching. Scotland is not a sensible venue for singing songs about organisations that 90% likely do not support and find offensive. Its actually worse that its at away games because a higher percentage of the crowd will take offence.
There are many people, myself included (and plenty of other tims) who found pira methods utterly disgusting at times (pub bombs etc) and would not condone them on moral or religious grounds.

or put a lot simpler - this site has shown how varied peoples political and moral standpoints are (everything from marxists to tories) so why should one political point of view be inflicted on all. Its a broad church. I know several people who are scared off by the politics.
