Er, 9 in a row?

and close to going burst
Rangers were spending that money trying to improve the first team for Europe and it got them nowhere and the club is now fecked. We could possibly do nine in a row without making the same silly mistakes. I want to see exciting signings that will genuinely improve us not just players for the sake of it.
We cant afford any more gravesen's.

Yeah shame that never happened. Still, hope springs eternal.... Hell, we have pots of cash and Desmond could chuck in a shekel or two surely. Heard on the grapevine he might be worth a few bob?

One thing I'll be judging the board on this season is the performance of the left backs who joined the Premiership this window that we might've nicked:
Traore (Portsmouth)
Belhadj (Portsmouth)
Ilunga (West Ham)
Paul Robinson (WBA)
McCartney (Sunderland) not that we were linked but I'd like to see this £4.5 million left back in action....
I doubt any of these guys are gonig to be much of an improvement on Naylor or even Wilson @ left back but we will see...
|
There are a few more that moved around Europe this season. Good point though. I think Robinson will be decent as I've seen him. Can't comment on the rest. Traore has lost it.

Robson should have been on from the start on Sunday. Brown is a shadow of the player he was pre-Celtic and looks well short of his price tag and it is time he delivered. The bottom line is there are certain players that are selling the club and the fans short and spending £10 million or so on players is not gonna help if everyone does not stand up on a match day and be counted. That said, be nice to see it happen
By the Way, anyone else fed up to the back teeth of Caldwell doing interviews and talking himself and the team up big time only to come unstuck. Shut the F**k up and concentrate on the football, big time Charlie!!!

caldwell should do his talking on the pitch, not off it
brown should be dropped and played in the reserves till he gets some form
or sellhim next season to the highest bidder in the epl

What I can not get over, or ignore, is our pathetic dealings in the transfer market. Not one player came through the door this year that is better than what we already have. Two of them, in McCourt and Crosas, could not even be considered squad players at present. The other two are, but that is all they are. Not saying I don't like Maloney or Samaras, just that they are more of the same and nothing new. Are the board completely lacking in ambition? Is money their one and only and true pursuit? Have they forgotten the oldest business adage in the book - You have to spend money, to make money? I think we were lucky to make the last 16 these past two years. Very lucky indeed. The idea that we could progress further with the same crop of players is simply laughable.
Now lets get this "EPL pricing us out" thing out of the way. Strachan and Lawells pish about not having £20 million to buy a decent player is bollocks. Are you telling me they could only find a better left back than Lee Naylor if they had £20 million to spend? Cause I noticed a whole pile of £3-6 million players moving this year and most of them are better than what we have. Like Mendes. I'd have bitten your hand off to sign him. Far better controlling midfielder than Scott Brown. He will get goals and provide goals. I am FURIOUS with their suggestion they are being priced out of players.
We used to spend £1 million average on a decent player in the early days of the SPL. Then it went up and £3 million players were coming. At the beginning of the Martin O'Neill reign, it was £5-6 million for a decent player and we got a few. Now, if what the board is saying about us being in the best financial position we have ever been in is true, then surely £6-8 million players should be arriving? Even just taking inflation into consideration?
Celtic thought they could put the money in their shareholders pockets when Rangers went out of Europe and it is the biggest mistake they will ever make. I am fucking livid we have not made one decent signing. One. Just fucking one. Is that too much to ask for the richest club in Scotland?
Never mind resting on our Laurels, we've throw them in the bin and forgot about them.

A agree with every thing you said mate, great post and the 100% truth
it will be the same old story next year again, wee seem to spend 7 million around this time of year!! every year!!!! a think he,s brought in pish again and the mids not functioning , brown,s awol at times. this group of players will get tore apart of vilareal, i hope am wrong but i think wee will be lucky to finish 3rd in this group.

Im not going back for the following reasons-
- 470 quid a season is a lot of money
- Its even harder to swallow when theres a total lack of passion from SOME supporters which ends up sweeping through the stadium to ensure ZERO ATMOSPHERE
- WGC/Lawell couldnt find decent signings if they were blootered with them in the face
- He refuses to make a change before 75mins !!!
- Scottish football is pish in general now
- The guy next to me moans (more than me) the whole way through every game
- Its becoming a joke even turning up these days
Feel free to hurl abuse at me, call me a roger hunt or whatever else but im not bothered one bit about saying "this is becoming ridiculous and im not paying to entertain it anymore"
I even wrote to the celtic view to ask if they could help to bring back some kind of atmosphere to our stadium.
I never got so much as a reply. Why? Cos they dont have a clue how it could be improved either !!!

The reason for this is because we are used to success. During the 95/96 period and the trying to stop 9 in a row season there was an amazing atmostphere at Parkhead. That is because we were starved of success for so long and even although we were still trailing the huns we had a decent enough team to compete kinda with them. I remember the 96/97' season and we beat Aberdeen 1-0 at Parkhead (Di Canio) and briefly went top of the league. THe atmosphere was unbelievable, better than an Old Firm or European night. It was because there was passion and fight to stop the nine in a row. We werent spoiled with trophies like we have been in recent seasons. Also the crowd that are going now, cant remember going to the games through the dark ages of Macari and Brady and getting humped off the huns every time like I can. WHen you were going to Parkhead to a crowd of 10/15,000 and watching us geat beat off Dundee Utd and thinking that it was the norm then you appreciate our success now. SOme of the fans going now expect success and dont support the team unless they are sucessful. WHich is wrong. Dig out some of the the old videos from the bad old days and you'll appreciate what I mean

So you can only have a god atmosphere when your the plucky undedogs then?
Thats what it's like in CL nights too.
Atmosphere at all sporting events has calmed down. Some people don't shout and screan becuase they think it makes them a Ned. Less swearing nowadays too. It was fucking mental in the jungle days.
If we provided better entertainment and bought some players with something about them it would pick up again.
Nobody except McGeady and Boruc. Remeber Di Canio, Larsson, Cadette, Pierre etc songs...............
