It is a nice point. Take the top teams from any top league in the World and they all imrove in te close season. We are a top team in a leaue, we should do the same.
I agree to disagree with everything you have said. I think your a glass half ful guy and I'm a half empty guy
One question. Do you think we can progrees further in the CL, as an ambition for this year stated by all at CP, than previous years with the current squad? If your answer is no, then you must agree with me in some way.
We have not brough in anyone that will make an instant change or improvement somewhere. I can't remeber the last time that hapened.

Obviously like anybody else I am still gutted from Sunday but I have sat back and not posted in haste.
For me the board have to take most of the blame for our poor start and the defeat Sunday when just a few weeks ago we had a chance to leave the huns trailing in the dust.
Fact is Strachan is there to produce a winning team and he is judged on his results. It doesn't matter if the players love him, if he is a fantastic innovative coach. He is judged on his results and well he has delivered so far. But just because he has won 3 straight titles doesn't make him immune from this kind of judgment it maybe just gives him a bit more leeway.
In the same token it is the boards job to manage our club well and ultimately do so in a way that helps us put a winning team on the field. During the modern day transfer window this job involves them delivering us the players we need to win on the field. They can use all the excuses they want. But fact is the club has next to no debt and is in great shape yet the board failed to strenthen the team to any great extent. Now the club has been so well run in recent years by the board that I guess maybe I will give them the benefit of the doubt and maybe this team will get it's act together and produce. But quite frankly I go into our Champions League campaign with little belief we will make any great impact. In fact I am just hoping we do enough to be respectable and at least make the UEFA Cup with 3rd place. Likewise I am very unsure of our ability to reatain the spl.
The bottom line is all the excuses in the world can be used by the board and as brilliant as they have been in recent years they didn't get their job done in this transfer window and as a result the next few months could go either way for Celtic both in Europe and the spl. That is gamble we should not be taking.

Agreed.
Any other club at the top of their game who have a chance to leave their main rivals and competitors in their wake would take it. By not, the money we have ben gettin may dissapear. I have real doubts about the CL this year. Worried we could be on to a hiding home and away in 4 of the games. The other top teams in our group already had great players and they have strengthened.

Even after Martin O'Neill it's only now that we've come to the situation of being described as in good financial shape. Strachan and Lawwel have done tremendous in cutting our wages which are now small compared to under O'Neill.
3) The third point I've highlighted is again completely wide of the mark. The quote was we could only improve on VENEGOOR! with a £20 million player. Which in fairness isn't too far from the truth. Liverpool spent £20 million on Robbie Keane ffs. In terms of left backs - look at Sunderland! They've just spent £4.5 million on George fucking McCartney. Unproven at any level and Celtic fans seem to think we can get some kind of CL experienced LB for less than a million! Portsmouth had to sign Traore from Arsenal who got ripped apart when he appeared in the bloody Carling Cup. Why you've thrown Mendes in I have no idea. He's a good midfielder fair enough but he's played 2 games for Rangers in the SPL. Canw e keep a hold of reality please?
4) "Being in the best financial situation for years" is absolutely true why you are doubting this I'm not sure - inflation has no bearing. It's not HOW MUCH we spend compared to past years. It's how much we can SUSTAINABLY SPEND.
5) One decent signing? Again we can agree to disagree. Maloney & Samaras are top class first teamers. Loovens arguably an improvement on Mick. Crosas an immense prospect and McCourt an unknown quantity at the moment.
6) Sure Rangers have spent a lot more than us but believe me they won't be doing that next year. This is last chance saloon for them and I believe we can take them again this year despite their outrageous spending.

Should we, the three times champions of Scotland and twice last 16 CL, have to wait when we have just had a 3 month window. If they can't hammer out any deals in 3 months, what chance we got over 1?
Anyone who is not angry by the transfer activity this year are not real football or Celtic fans. I am Celtic through and through and I want the best for my team ALWAYS.
I don't think we got the best out of the TW, no where near it, so I am pissed off. We have gone no further forward and thats pathetic.
Point out a summer transfer window in the last 10 years when we didn't buy at least 1 good new player, cause I can't see any.
We are supposed to be at our richest time in history ad it's not showing on the park. That sucks balls.
No-one can eat the same dinner every night, listen to the same album etc for an entire year! You need freshness to stop things going stale.
I feel let down by the Board big time. I am 100% sure Strachan was not the one to pulg the plug on deals. He wants new blood as much as us.

What hurts is seeing the Huns throwing cash around like a Bombay money lender and we are stuck with the same pish, many who are squad players and always will be (lets be honest, the Wee man has not dug up many gems) I for one am glad Maloney came home and hope he can inject some life into the team. Robson should have been on from the start on Sunday. Brown is a shadow of the player he was pre-Celtic and looks well short of his price tag and it is time he delivered. The bottom line is there are certain players that are selling the club and the fans short and spending £10 million or so on players is not gonna help if everyone does not stand up on a match day and be counted. That said, be nice to see it happen
By the Way, anyone else fed up to the back teeth of Caldwell doing interviews and talking himself and the team up big time only to come unstuck. Shut the F**k up and concentrate on the football, big time Charlie!!!

I really do believe that if a player became available that could walk into the celtic first team, which is what people seem to want and we could have afforded the fee, then we would have signed them. Look when Rangers were streets ahead of us and kept kicking on with big money buys where did it leave them in the long run?
I can see the fans frustrations, but you will probably find Peter Lawell and WGS are frustrated as well.
Finding a top quality left back with the money we have is just not guaranteed. Look when we strengthened the right side with Hinkel i thought he was going to blow the SPL away and it's just not happened.
I dont want some 4-5 million left back signing signed just for the sake of it to drag the clubs finances down without really improving the team.

One off the top of my head - after Seville season we signed Pearson and Michael Gray.
One thing I'll be judging the board on this season is the performance of the left backs who joined the Premiership this window that we might've nicked:
Traore (Portsmouth)
Belhadj (Portsmouth)
Ilunga (West Ham)
Paul Robinson (WBA)
McCartney (Sunderland) not that we were linked but I'd like to see this £4.5 million left back in action....
I doubt any of these guys are gonig to be much of an improvement on Naylor or even Wilson @ left back but we will see...
