Jinky statue to be built

COUNCILLORS in Glasgow have given the go-ahead to a £60,000 statue of Celtic winger Jimmy Johnstone.
As revealed in the Evening Times earlier this month, the bronze memorial will be built at the entrance to Celtic Park, next to a similar tribute to club founder, Brother Walfrid.
It is being designed by Scots sculptor Kate Robinson, who also created Brother Walfrid's statue.
Planning permission has now been granted by Glasgow City Council.
Jinky's widow, Agnes, said she had seen early impressions of the "action shot" image of the legendary winger who died two years ago, aged 61, from motor neurone disease.
She said: "It was looking smashing, even though it was only in clay.
"Kate says she wants to get it just right. From what I have seen of her early work, she has got his face and mouth spot-on."
The statue will be unveiled by the SPL champions at a special ceremony later in the season.

this is old news it was confirmed last year that a statue of the great jimmy johnstone
was being built. i dont mean any disrespect pal there but they also mentioned
that it was supposed to be unfirlled at the start of the new season there .so i guess it has been put back.but hopefully it will happen soon.the wee man deserves this all the way.i hope they do something for tommy burns aswell havent heard anything about that yet.
