Why should our high earners move on ?

Not wishing to open a can of worms but I am always taken aback with comments towards the likes of Gravesen, Balde, and Thomson prior to his departure with the "get tae f*ck" attitude.

Our management signed these players and offered them the lucrative contracts. (Worth much more than their true value)

Bearing in mind none of is is getting any younger, I would certainly stay for the cash at the point they are at in their careers.

Medals don't pay the mortgage. Cash does.

Alan Thompson was a fuckin awesome midfielder he was worth every penny, would have welcomed him at CP for longer.

are you talking from the fans' or the club's attitude?

i can sort of understand it from the fans. they are only thinking of one thing and one thing only...whats best for the club here and now. they, and i include myself, would prefer to see the cash spent elsewhere to improve the first team, rather than let it rot on someone who is lucky to make the bench and is quite obviously not in the managers plans any more.

the club has to take a more professional position on the matter. they can only gently give them a nudge towards the door as it is unnessasery expenditure that they can trim from the balance sheets.

we, the fans, should give some of these players more respect as some have been with us for a very long time and served us through thick and thin (eg Bobo).

I am disappointed to say that the attitude is the same from the club as the fans.

Its only because these players are on big wages and wont play. So its a better option to leave and we use the money to buy someone who the manager will pay.

I'm sure most of the fans dont have anything against these players. And (for Thommo and Bobo) appreciate what they have done for the club.

Pisses me off that players can get rich at our expense and do fuck all in return for the money. I know its not their fault after the contract is signed and all that but if your any sort of a man and a player you would push yourself on and try to move somewhere where you have a better chance of progression.

Gravesen for one has always said he loves Celtic and wants to stay and fight for his place.

If the manager wont play him and no offers come in wot more can he do?

I have no problem with players not wanting to move. Celtic offered the contract.

A bit of pride.

If the club has paid them top dollar for a number of years and then decide they are not good enough, the playr should take the hint and move to another club. Not stay , sit on the bench and bleed the club dry.

I actually thought about this earlier today (before I knew this thread was on). The player was signed on those terms and I think its a bit off for the club to suddenly change their minds and try to alter the terms. Having said that, Im fed up with players not honouring their contracts either and thinking they can do a runner when it suits them.

They have a right to stay, ofcourse they do.
but we don't have to like them for it and it show's alot about their personality imo that they'd rather sit on their arse than play football.

This artical sums it up perfectly for me:

Quote:
Somewhere along the line Bobo Balde and Tommy G must of lost their love for football. Bobo who has been sitting on his arse for the best part of two years, he goes to his bank account once a week and withdraws 28k.

Tommy G’s agent today declared that his client is going nowhere and is more than prepared to sit along side Bobo week in week out and hit his ATM for a whopping 40k a week. While it is well with in their rights to do this, it also paints a picture though of the type of person they are. After all were taking a combined total of nearly 70k a week here for two players that do absolutely nothing to help the Celtic cause.

There is a countless number of players who take off down the divisions, take pay cuts, move to different countries all for the sake of getting a couple of minutes on the park every week. I doubt Tommy G or Bobo are short of a few quid so it’s bewildering to think they are willing to tarnish their names and leave Celtic fans with nothing to remember them by except for two sponges who dinted the progression of the playing squad.

As for management and boards a lot has been made of the new Celtic signing policy that ensures your not landed with any duds by giving them long term contracts then find they can’t deliver and you can’t shift them. On the other hand you don’t want to be signing some wonderkid on a short-term basis, he sets the world on fire and moves on for nothing. This is the dilemma that clubs are left with these days but if the players were through footballers and didn’t mind a pay cut of say 28k to 20k I’m sure they’d manage to pay the bills and might still get a game of football (what there paid for) to boot.

It would be a joy for Celtic Football Club when the window shuts if there was 70k a week been spent on players that actually were involved in the coming season.

Just think about that - gives me goosbumps.

Also imagine playing for the hoops - braw eh?
