The best Eircom League teams would easily compete with most SPL teams so it's not the huge step up you are making it out to be.
He has been signed for 150K to be cover on the wings.I have seen him myself on a couple of occasions while he was at Rovers and a couple of times on T.V for Derry. He's got a lot of talent its just about getting his head down and seizing his chance. He won't affect any of our other transfer dealings because the fee was so small.
I think he'll surprise you TBH

plus if he doesnt cut it here, and scores maybe 1 or 2 goals next season we can sell him off for a profit (plus the kenny miller cash paid for him so no impact on our transfer funds)

People are still whinging about picking this man up on a windfall?? WHY FFS ???
Every transfer season we get a couple of good "cheap" talent-based signings from smaller leagues and they're always good business. The likelihood of getting a really good player in the open market is very low... this is where we can always make a killing. And it hardly has any affect on signing more 2-4m journeyman.

Good luck to him. Im not tryin to sound like a dick but some things said about him on here are disrespectful. At the end of the day, hes a hoops fan whos gonna fulfil his dream to play for them. Were not expecting the best but we needa give him some form of support. I hope hes playin in a few pre season friendlies and proves most of you wrong!

Don't care where he came from or what he's done in the past, i'll judge him with a Celtic top on and from a clean slate like every other player we sign.
People from within football seem to think with a few tweeks the guy can be something special so we'll just have to wait and see.

The only way to make comparisons between different league's quality is on European record and the SPL's is miles better than the Irish leagues (both of them). Not sure of stats but SPL teams have made it to at last 6 European finals in the last 40 years with a good few semi-final appearances in the European cup too. Two of the finals have been in the last 6 years so its not all ancient history. Its not just the Old Firm either. Aberdeen and Dundee United have been in Euripean finals. People forget that as well as getting to a Uefa final, Dundee UNited also got to the European cup final around the same time. Sorry but there is simply no comparison between the top Scottish and top Irish leagues. Not sure about the League of Ireland but I have seen some Irish League games (northern Ireland) and the standard is absolutely laughable. It always looks like pinball, shots never go in cleanly and its all argy bargy.
