Does anyone else not think JVOH is just a heed-the-baw?

He NEVER EVER takes the ball in/holds it up to bring others into play.

All he does when he wins a header (which i would say is 50% of the time being generous) is heed the baw behind him in the hope skippy is there to pick up the peices. He is a far cry from Sutton/Hartson who frequently won fouls and held up play introducing players etc.

When was the last time he scored a decent goal with his foot?

For a guy of his size he has a very poor physical presence.

When Samaras came on the difference was striking. He at least attempts to bring the ball in introduce others and even dribble and shoot!!

Sorry guys

your thoughts?
Seems to me like his heads down a bit, I met him in Milan, and he's a really nice big quiet guy, so I think he's taking a lot of the abuse really badly.

He does look a bit clumsy up front at times but he's still puttin the ball in the pokey at vital times.

Doesnt look as sharp at all this year, but all the injuries cant have helped.

id just like to see him take the ball in and win a foul now and then or bring someone else into play. he always seems to give away the foul or heed-the-baw aimlessly. hes obviously has got talent but dont think he uses it anywhere near as much as he could. that goal against man u was top class thats the vennegoor a want to see

I really wish he never scored that goal against United, all the detractors seem to use it against him like its a cross he has to bear until he scores a goal of similar quality at a similar level.

To me he is a technically proficient, clever footballer that went through the bad patch the entire team did a couple months ago and nothing more.

JVH is a decent honest hard working CF who has been a good signing. All he lacks is a bit of raw agression if he posessed that quality then he would score a barell load of goals.

Overall he has been productive for celtic and hopefully a injury free pre-season will see him continue to be so next season.

watchin the game on sunday JVOH got nothing in the way of fouls against him, he battled & battled...

19 goals not bad

I would like to see a top,top class striker at CP next season and if this means gettin rid of jan Ven and Samaras then so be it!

People did the same moaning about John Hartson when he banged in 20 goals in GS's first season here but then wanted another Hartson when he left. Hesselink has 19 with a match to play and plays a similar style to BBJ, why are people unhappy with his contribution. I'm definately not.

BTW, Samaras isnt good enough to start for Celtic. Impact sub at best

I think JVOH is the perfect foil for skippy, how many of the goals that mcdonald have been from an assist from JVOH? Mcdonald knows when a ball comes into the box more often than not JVOH will be ther to knock it down for him

You know what i mean, he misses a lot of chances before eventually getting one.

Hartson could shrug off defenders, score from outside or inside the box and was a great striking partner for whoever he was alongside, be it Henky or Sutton.

Venegoor gives away more fouls that Hartson and if i am correct he has only scored 1 or 2 goals from outside the box for Celtic?

I dunno but yer probably right or close enough but what does that really mean? It doesnt make him a worse striker. Hartson wasnt that prolific from outside the box either, he was about the same

Liverpool away , huns at home and probably a couple more. (Hartson outside the box) Only one i can think of for Jan is Man U away and even that may have been inside.

People were comparing him to Harston because of the same 'style'. But for someone with the same 'style' he seemed to do a hell of a lot more, or should i say done the same things but a lot better.

That was inside i think

People moaned all the time on here about BBJ's mobility, fitness, overall contribution. I didnt, I spent alot of time defending him with the agruement, his job is to put the ball in the net and i'll say the same for JVOH. Alot of people benefitted from playing off Hartson, Skippy is doing the same with Hesselink.

While they are similar, they aint identical but their end product is about the same although BBJ did it for many more years than Hesselink

Great player just a bit slow at times scored many vital goals and 2nd top goalscorer in the league, better than sammy imo.
