but come on excellent? sutton was excellent, hartson was excellent

i know its unfortunate for him that our last strikers were all top quality but he's not even close.

good old nostalgia.

in 5 years time when he's gone people will say he was as good as hartson and sutton. the grass is always greener on the other side

well put. I bet those who are slagging off JVOH were slagging off Hartson (he's too fat, he's too lazy bullshit) and even Sutton (he doesn't score as often as henrik) too.

Works hard but he can barely run, has no talent and gives away a ton of fouls.

Amazing level of "grass-is-always-greener-itis" here. Venegoor for me will be rememberd much the same as Hartson. But if we take our rose-tinted specs off here Hartson got one hell of a slagging in his last season and now from what people ahrk on about you'd think he was fat Ronaldo.

Maybe Venegoor wasnt as good as Hartson but VOH has been excellent for us and has scored some crucial goals. He also gives the defence a torrid time even if he doesnt score, opening up the chance for impact subs to do even more damage.

Anyone can score a goal, those who do it week in week out are the one's that have true talent. Venegoor misses 100 chances then scores a tap in

Hesselink brings more to the table than Hartson. If Hesselink stays here for a similar time period he'll outscore and out assist him to say otherwise is pure nostalgia and nothing more. Remember the times everyone pulled their hair out about big John for his utter laziness, Hesselink gets it now yet runs far more than Hartson did defies belief.

i like JVOH, but his main problem is that he is quite slow.
He gives 100% and and has a very good scoring record for a target man

I agree. When he first arrived he looked an improvement on Hartson. He was being described as a more mobile BBJ. People have forgotten just how slow BBJ was. If it werent for his injury proneness imagine how many JVOH would have scored. That said he is around 30 now and I wouldnt extend his contract. Think next is his last season and thats fair enough. If we can sell him in the summer and get a few million for him then fine as long as we sign better. Problem is getting better in out usual budget range. I think JVOH was vert cheap for a dutch international striker with a great club pedegree. I like the guy and will miss him. Seems a hell of a nice modest bloke. My hot tip is that Sheridan will leapfrog a lot of older players and will be putting JVOH under big pressure next season.
