I think 4 tropheys in 2 years, 2 appearances in the champions last 16, while only being knocked out last year by the eventual winners is not bad going when you consider the shoes he had to step into after the beloved MON left.

I fully agree that our defence could be better, and overall I think WGS could have done a bit more on the defensive front in the summer, while some of his signings have been suspect. However, every signings ain't gaurentee'd to work out. Tell me this, people who are against WGS, will they accept him as a Celtic success if we win 3-in-a-row for the first time since Big Jock?

Hail Hail
Craig, i'm i pickin you up wrong or do you have some agenda against Martin O'Neil?

That don't even merit an answer. Sounds like your avoiding my question?

Bearing in mind you didn't answer my question either.

Yes i'll accept that as success, but he would still need another 6 to get near to Jock.

Now, Martin O'neill Craig? judging by your posts i'd say you do have an agenda against him. Do you have an answer, or do you just appear to be degrading one of our best ever managers?

Gettin off the point of the thread guys.

The defence needs overhauled. Caldwell and Naylor need replaced. We need an imposing inspirational centre half (Balde anyone?) next to Mick and a LB thats comfortable on the ball.

Think we have enough cover at right back now and next season I would imagine Hinkel and Doumbe will fight for RB slot.

i expect naylor, balde and doumbe to be playing elsewhere next season, so really we need two left backs and a centre half. richard dunne and wayne bridge would be brilliant signings but maybe a bit unrealistic to expect them to leave good premiership sides to come to the SPL

Just watching the Barca game again on Celtic tv (Nou Camp). 6 and a half minutes in and already our in-ability to defend is glaringly obvious. World class opposition or not, at the level we're meant to be at we should be able to press them when they have the ball but we just seem to be trying to concentrate on holding certain shapes at the expense of trying to disposess the opposition. Against a team like Barca we should be trying to limit the space they have, like just about every team in the SPL does to us (is it a coincidence we have to grind out results more often than not?), if we want to have any hope of stopping them playing the football they were allowed to play.

It really is schoolboy stuff. And I blame the coaching staff more than i do the players.

100000% agree m8.

It is this stupid zonal marking we do.If you notice we are nowhere near any of their attackers, we dont get tight to them as our players run to their areas and not with an oponent.Thhis kind of defending is totaly useless against the likes of a Barca and is not much better in the SPL.The only possible reason I can see why we do this is WGS probably does not trust his defenders to defend and makes the game easier for them. It also stops people from pointing the finger at individuals and saying he was your man why did you let him go.

Get something good on LB, yeah. And, about a partner to McManus, if we signed Diego Lugano from Fenerbahce, our defense would be rock-solid.
