The SPL split

I realise it's a wee while away yet but I'm wondering if any of the statos out there can outline how it's going to pan out this season.

At the moment Rangers have had two more home games than us. We have a sequence of away games coming up (one in Europe, one in the Cup and 4 in the league I believe). Is it possible that going in to the split we will still be well behind Rangers in terms of the number of home games we've played ?

If so will that imbalance be redressed after the split ? i.e. us maybe having 4 home games and 1 away ?

Anyone got a handle on this ?

At the moment we have played 12 home games, we have 2 left and 2 to be rearranged taking us up to 16 before the spliit.

We've played 13 away games and will play 4 more before the split taking us up to 17 before the split. So we play 5 games after the split so to get the 19 home and away we'll have to play 3 home games after the split and 2 away games

Assuming Rangers play all their games in hand before the split they'll have the reverse, 3 away games left and 2 home games

The split is a ridiculas idea anyway. What other league would you have where some teams play twice at an away ground and once at home. I can recall teams complaining about going to tough away grounds 3 times even. Also as a supporter I like to look at the fixture list and try and work out who will, and where points will be dropped but with this ridiculous situation in Scotland at the moment there is little chance of that. Time for change in the whole set up I think.

I agree that the split is severely flawed. But I don't know what the answer is. We could go back to a 10 team SPL or increase it to 16 or 18. The problem with a bigger league is that you have quite a few teams in the SPL who would just be cannon fodder. Have you got any suggestions ?

I agree, I'd love a 16 team league where we all play each other twice but it won't happen any time soon. Besides any change will make sure 4 Old Firm games still exists for revenue purposes

I'd hate a 16 team league, and imo it would drop attendances.

We will def be at home to rangers and hibs. if hearts are top 6 we will be away to them.

Rangers away to us and hibs and at home to hearts. the rest is just a lottery depending on which teams are in the top six.

I like it from the point that 30 games is a reasonably amount for a season and it would be much fairer playing each team home and away once. The problem like you said though is attendances would drop and revenue would drop which is why it'll never happen.

Wasn't there a suggested idea of a 14 team league a few years ago? Each team plays each other twice - 26 games - than the league splits in two - top 7 and bottom 7 - and the teams play each other twice again, resulting in 12 games which will add up to 38 which is what we have at the moment included 4 OF games. Or did I just dream that?

I dont know if anybody has said this already.so I apollogise just in case.It has been sugested that we will be playing two home Old Firm games after the Split as this will help ease the fixture congestion problems. Both games as I say will be at Parkhead as this is just the way the fixtures will work out.

If it happens is this good or bad.?

For me I cant decide.

It'll be a good thing if we win both matches and a bad thing if we lose them both.

If we win the first match then it's definitly a good thing going into the second one knowing we can do it again
