As the saying goes - Every player has his price , and that price is dictated by the needs of the buying team..
For example , Spurs went in with a "Can't refuse" off to the huns for Hutton , but I reckon if Man Utd had been the first team in for him with a bid of £5 million then the huns would also have accepted that..
I don't think selling Mcdonald after such a fruitfull season would be wise when Strachan is trying to build a young settled team , but you just don't know how the club sees it and what kind of bids might come in for him..
He's certainly equal to guys like Chopra , Harewood and Marlon King and probably nearer the ability of guys like Bellamy , Michael Owen and Louis Saha.
Those three guys had pace to burn over the years but with injuries are probably rated around the £7 million mark.. I think Mcdnald is a bigger asset than any of those , and just as good a predator as any of them (He will retain sell on value because of his age) and feel sure that an English club would be willing to pay £7 or £8 million for Mcdonald once he gets over the 35 mark for the season..

let me clear that up a little when i say replace i don't mean sell on
i ment sign a top quality striker but i think mcdonald still has a job at celtic but should not be first choise next season
i don't think it was negative he will do a great job this season i think most people will agree with me that summer should be bringing in a quality striker because the jury is still out on samaras and big jan i don't think we have a solid partnership up front i might be wrong it might be just what skippy needs

I for one totaly agree Irvy with all of your points in this post.
Although being negative is only relevant if someone else thinks it is,is it not.

Fucking shocking irvy. That post fucking baffles me. And ellboy as well, why the fuck should Skippy not be first choice, eh? A terrible attitude toward the countrys most prolific scorer, shame on you.

To get a striker who would have scored 23 goals by this time of the season you would have to shell out a good few million at least

Just a bit of fun. I personally think his value to us is much higher than we would get for him and it wouldnt be worth selling. I hope we are not a selling club for a couple of years anyway. A lot of the players are pretty young and would be pretty foolish to leave us in the next couple of seasons like wee shaun and miller did.

i think the signs are there already there im afraid samaras comes on skippy goes off we will see whats happens but i still think we need a shake up front i know we are hitting great form but next season will bring new faces and skippy will have a whole new challenge
he is not my favorite player at celtic maybe i just can't see past larsson but thats what i want sombody equally as good off the ball and assisting as they are putting it away

I think hes a fine striker and will be a great asset for years to come hopefuly.
I just kind of agree with Irvy that I would like to see a more skillfull forward up their either playing with Skippy or replacing him. I think the wee guy works his socks of and is curently scoring for fun and long may it continue. However he is limited in a lot of areas for example Pace,Power or the ability to create for others.
We can but dream of having it all.
Oh and Irvy welcome to the back and front club. LMAO.

McDonald has done enough for me to make him number 1 striker at the club, and I see no reason why he should lose that mantle.

not even middle of feb yet. pl top scorer with 35 goals not an unrealistic target this season. im pretty new to this site and i cant believe people saying shouldnt be first choice or hes limited. FFS henriks gone, get over it and get behind what weve got on the park the now. wee skippy is a goal machine who would die for the jersey. lets try acting like celtic supporters and give some praise where its due. hail, hail.
