I honestly think we may have to change to a 4-5-1 for the barca game as they are so strong from mid to front. However my striker would be Samaras as he is the most mobile and skillfull forward we have he would probably be our best option up there as an out ball.
It would be extremely brave if WGS played this way and Samras got the shout although I cant see him being so radical as to change the team as much.
4-5-1 worked at Spartak and Benfica so maybe it could work against Barca.

Samaras is not fully fit though, he aint had a game since December and has only had 20min for the both two games with us, also he looked good on his debut but he wasnt really in the Aberdeen game, so i would stick to who we know best at the moment, and maybe the Greek could change my mind if he shows what hes got now untill barca, but my choice at this moment is McDonald.

My speculative formation against Barca were we to go 4-5-1 would be:
..........................Boruc................... .....
Hinkel....Caldwell...........McManus.....Naylor
.................................................. .........
...............Donati.........hartley............. ....
McGeady......................................Robso n
.......................Naka. (free role-ish).........
.................................................. .........
......................McDonald.................... ....

i hope we don't go 4-5-1 at home to be honest.
we have nothing to lose and it all to gain against the odds in favourites albeit they are still not playing their best right now.
i think it works to our advantage that we are at parkhead first, because of our record at home we sure of getting something, personally i think we will sneak a 2-1 win.
but if we go 4-5-1 i think all we can get out of the home tie at best is draw which in fairness is no good to us one bit even it is 0-0 we need something out of the home tie and a draw is not going to cut it if we want to knock barca out of this competition.
now i know they will have an away goal advantage but going to the nou camp with a win on our backs is better then going there with a 0-0 draw.
while we are home and have nothing to lose and are expected to get bent over and done in our man vaginas i don't see why we need to change our game just because barca are coming to town.
to a similar fashion to the line up went against aberdeen is what think we should to try and get goals in this game.
--------------------------------BORUC--------------------------------
---------CALDWELL---------BOBO-----MICK--------------NAYLOR------
------------------------------HARTLEY--------------------------------
----------NAKA-----------------------------------------MCGEADY-----
-----------------------------ROBSON----------------------------------
----------------------MCDONALD---JVOH------------------------------
my only concern is i don't know much about balde meant to be injured but if he was to be injured for this game i'd imagine WGS would use hartley in RB donati to fill at DCM and caldwell to go back to CB.
with samaras on the bench i think we have enough cover to try and get a win but playing a 4-5-1 at home i think is silly as parkhead is the best chance we got of getting anything at all so we should go all out to try and get what we can while we are at home then go to the nou camp and play 4-5-1 if we do a get a 2-1 win.

well aslong as we don't play 4-5-1 at home i'm happy thats the last place we should ever play that formation unless we were up against barca wining 5-0 or something stupid like that, playing 4-5-1 at parkhead is well rather silly

the difference between us and them is that we know what an actual result means and we know we can actually beat barca, at home atleast.
result for huns v barca=draw "we are the brilliant going to win spl blah blah"
result for celtic v milan(defending champs)=win "?" "dida forgot how to use legs"
kinda of a little dig at the media i guess

Barca play 4-5-1 Do they play negative football.?
We dont have to be negative either as our ball players are infanitly better than the huns and we will be attacking with five or six players when we get the ball.
It is common knowledge that Barca´s strength is mid to front with Xavi,Iniesta and Marquez/Deco in the centre. I think it would be suicidal just to play two CM players aginst such talent. We need to win the ball in the middle of the park as much as possible and keep the presure of the backline,as we all know that is where we are weak.

i'd be more then happy to play 4-5-1 if we had most of barca's players but we don't they have enough quality to still be attacking in such a formation were as some of our players aint so well rounded.
we can't keep the ball like they do and we can't attack like they do.
barca's attack is their defense thats why they can probably just play in any old formation and still look good and still win games.
if we try and copy barca with formation and even style of play well i think there is only going to be one outcome don't you?
the best thing celtic can do is play the way we want to, rather shake up our tactics to accomdate barca strengths.
we are at home with nothing to lose out of this so why play 4-5-1 when we don't have the strikers to pull it of like barca do?.

Iam not saying we have the players to take a team like Barca to the Cleaners. I just think we should be trying to limit them as much space as possible when they have posession. I just believe if we stick to 4-4-2 we will be over run in the midfield and we will struggle to contain them.
We need to close the game down not open it up as for me this would be suicide.
Also I agree 4-5-1 could be construed as being negative but I think most teams would look like they are playing, negative football against a team like Barca as they keep the ball for long periods no matter what formation their oponents use. Also we need to break the play up as far away from our goal as possible to keep as much presure of our backline as possible. With the advantage of hitting their defence quickly as this is where they are most vunrable.
We dont want the tie to be over before we get to the Camp Nou so I would take a 0-0 or a 1-0 win at Celtic park. As I think we can score in Barca if we can frustrate them.

Barcelona play with a 3 pronged attack not 1 and have been doing so for about 2 years religiously. They have the players to do that though even if it quells Henry a bit as he's shunted out to the left wing, Messi performs best cutting in from the right and Etoo is possibly the best centre forward in Europe on his day.
If we played 4-5-1 we would use 5 midfielders not 3 and 3 strikers. If it worked i wouldn't particulary care but we didn't shut up shop against Milan so i doubt we would against Barca.

Ronaldinho and Messi are not strikers they are playmakers like Aiden and Naka only better when on their game. Henry is being used in the same way when he plays. It just looks like they are playing with a 3 pronged attack at times as you put it as Barca are usualy attacking.
