simon donnelly was talked about as the next dalglish, had real promise to be the bst, also mark burchill was meant to be better. id have to say mcgeady is a great player but there was talk of him being the greatest we have ever produced do you remember when he was in the youth team and had the boot deal at like 13...there was maa hype, he is a top player but he was meant to be unbelievable...ross wallace and liam miller, jamie smith

Actually to be fair he was good in the first half for Ireland against Brazil on Wednesday. Picked up an injury though and didn't play in the second half.

back in the 80's... john halpin.... should have been a star.
danny crainie couldnt get in the team cos nicholas, mcgarvey & mcclusky were running amok.
in more recent times.... simon donnely chased the pound and lost a career at the top level.
mark burchill.... likewise.
steven crainey.... was a disappointment as was barry smith & brian o'neil.
in the 90's when andy peyton arrived he had an electrifying debut and then it all fizzled out... family problems forced him back to england
big shame... he looked like a young charlie nich... but with pace.
and ronnie coyle and davie moyes would have been a solid defensive pair at another club... aitken and macadam kept them out.
and the biggest let down for me was liam brady beig a dud manager.... i really thought he'd take us to the promised land of euro glory.

Colin Healy, Chris Hay, Brian McLaughlin, Jamie McQuilken, Burchill, Mark McInally, Stephane Bonnes, amongst others. Did anyone know we had Thomas Hitzelsperger on trial when he was around 19?

Nicholas was highly regarded at Arsenal. He became a kind of cult hero.

They were both truly exceptional for their age. Kerr was amazing when replaced Marshall but slowly declined and was replaced by Gould due to back problems that were not publically known about for a long time. Marshall just suffered a major confidence crash. Both had/have great technique. Kerr was superb at taking crosses (much better than Artur) and at one-on-ones although he wasnt an exceptional shot stopper like Artur. Everyone thought both Kerr and Marshall would be the Celtic and Scotland goalie for a decade. I still wouldnt be surprised to see Marshall back if Artur goes. Anyone know how hes doing?
Crainey was very unlucky. He would have broken through earlier but he was ill for over a year. He suffered because he was a 4-4-2 LB and MON played 3-5-2 with wing backs. He was not fast ot tricky enough to be a wing back or tall enough to be a left sided cb in a three. Amazing left peg and long ball on him and great tackler. He would have been in the team this season if he was a young reserve player now. We havent had a young LB prospect like him since.
I dont judge players on how they do when they go to a struggling English team because its a completely different kind of football they have to play.

I second that. He was recognised as a great player but one who liked to party too much.

I'd like to see David Marshall back. He's a quality keeper who got a raw deal, and was only ousted by King Artur, the best Celtic keeper in decades!
