Well when a bookie offers odds of 10,000/1 on a fairly high-profile event, there is only so much money they can afford to take on it. No matter how certain they are that it won't happen - even if the actual odds were 50,000/1 - they always have to allow for the scenario that it might happen, not leave themselves open to catastrophe.

The other thing they're thinking about is stuff out the blue - some billionnaire with tax write-off issues invests 60 million in Celtic next week, on condition that it's all spent on players in the winter transfer window. Suddenly even 2,500/1 is looking perilous for the bookie. They always like to play it safe.

To be honest, I reckon the main reason for offering 10,000/1 on that is publicity. Like Paddy Power or Betfair paying out very early on a league that isn't decided yet - gets them free column inches.

Yeah, 16 straight wins, two of which are against Rangers. Real odds should be somewhere around 400/1 atm.

But the fact the price is so low is a very good indicator that the bookies are rattled.

Folk who got on this at 10000/1 - or even 2500 - must be starting to get a bit excited now. If we go another 10 games without dropping a point, there's gonna be some serious arsesqueakery going down. :56:

At which point, with the best will in the world, our foot will be off the gas. And if we're playing team who are battling for a UEFA Cup spot etc, they are simply going to want it more.
