Baggies loss could favour Celts
West Brom midfielder Jason Koumas could be on his way to Celtic after the Baggies lost to Derby County in the English Championship play-off final this afternoon.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who began his career with Tranmere Rovers, is something of a flair player who can both create and score goals while drifting across the pitch. He has been named in the Championship team of season for two years in a row.
Considered by some to be the best player outside of the Premiership in England, Koumas said before the final: "I've known about Celtic's interest, but I'm happy here. If we go up I don't need a move."
With Scott Brown already added to Celtic's squad, Koumas could be the flair player needed to bring some life into the midfield, while still having the discipline to hold the shape of the team. With Thomas Gravesen and Jiri Jarosik reportedly heading for the Parkhead exit, the money should be there.
One player who will be happier with this afternoon's result is ex-Celtic player Stephen Pearson, who scored the only goal of the game to fire Derby into the Premiership and towards all the money that entails. He moved from Celtic in January, and has quickly helped his new club achieve their number one target.
